Can /v/ explain to me why gacha games aren't real videogames?
>>
Because I personally do not like them
Or you
>>
Slow brains can't into gambling
It really is the ultimate rush
>>

I honestly can't, because I still have no idea what gatcha games actually are.
All I see is generic anime women with over-designed clothing.

>Slow brains can't into gambling
Are you implying gambling is for high IQ people?

is a poker machine a video game?
>>
Honestly i'm not scummy enough to attempt it when i've never played one of those games but then again i've never mugged anyone either.

Brains can be stimulated through drug use like cocaine.

It's because it's glorified slot machines with "gameplay" of dubious quality tacked ontop to pretend it's a legit video game. You do what you want, if you want to gamble you can gamble, it's your money. But don't pretend that the entire point of gacha isn't to win at the slot machine by pulling the prize you want. Why do you do dailes? Why do you do "the content"? It's because you are gathering resources to play the slot machines.

>but my favourite gacha is different the story and gameplay are good
Maybe it is, Genshit Impact is decent as a BotW rippoff but the goal is still to play the slot machine and the rest is just dressing to entice and trap you and to give the impression that it's a legit game with gambling mechanics supplementing the core game when in reality it's the other way around

Take Raid Shadow Legends and replace everything with anime girls, and you got a gacha game

I keep hearing the argument that the gacha is just a way to monetize these freeshit games but I don't know. Yes I've heard that argument from a personal gamedev friend of mine. Dunno, I think people are just making up reasons with their gambling addiction.
>>
>>733764115
Okay, but I don't know anything about Raid Shadow Legends either.
>>
>>733764115
Made me hearty kek when I discovered it is being developed by an Israeli company based from Tel Aviv.

Ironically, I saved an ad from years ago about this

If the goal was really just to monetize bro why not directly sell characters, skins, sell battle passes with FOMO rewards to keep them playing? You know like any other live service game that isn't a gacha does. Why specifically have the player "roll" for things they want if not because you want to tap into that gambler's brain? And that's really insidious because a gambler will lose control and spend all thier money on their addiction, even go into debt and ruin theirs or their family's life. Why do we keep seeing these articles about how some guy spent 100k on a gacha, that's not a bug, that's a feature and that's why gachas get extra hate compared to other games with predatory monetization schemes.
>>
>>733764297
Bullshit. It’s the most astroturfed game in existence
>>
Because it's mobile garbage. All of it.

>Genshit Impact is decent as a BotW rippoff but the goal is still to play the slot machine and the rest is just dressing to entice

Incorrect. Genshin is gamings all time best action adventure rpg and also has the best music of all time in gaming (until you hit Fontaine and the composer left)
>>
>>733763213
They're too much of a scam to count.
>>
>>733763213
It's not a gameplay genre, it's a method of monetization.
>>
>>733766650
Gacha are optimized for mobile, but they're also optimized for PC and console. Gacha are multiplatform media
>>
>>733763213
Most have gameplay that would be put to shame by a newgrounds game your average high schooler threw together, stories generated by AI to be wordy but meaningless and only make money by power scaling and comically nasty monetization.
>>
>>733763469
It's an arcade
>>
>>733765325
Sure gacha has evil monetization schemes, but is it a videogame or not?
>>
>>733766824
So this is a videogame?

Because at no point in human history has the dev/devs behind a gacha game thought "I want to make a good game", only "I want to make money". Gachashit is inherently soulless because the creation of one is a conscious decision to make a worse game than you could have to milk money out of retards.

Of course it is, but OP is about if gachas are "real" video games. To answer you have to ask yourself if the slot machine aspect overshadows the rest. There are some pretty elaborate slot machines with complex jackpot mechanics and fancy graphics that make them look more like an arcade than slots. Are those video games? Does gambling being at the core of gachas separates them enough from the rest of the industry to a point we're dealing with something different or is it just another genre?
I personally believe it's gambling wrapped in something that looks like a video game to get around regulations and stigma, henceforth not a "real" video game, the same way a fancy modern slot machine with complex mechanics, maybe even using a video game IP, is not an arcade cabinet but slots wrapped in arcade format to make it appear less degenerate.

>game

Not an argument

Imagine if you had to log in and do dailies for a month straight(or pay $10) just to have a 10% chance to roll a rivers of blood in elden ring, 3 months later it gets heavily powercrept and becomes worthless.
It's not that far from wow/wow derivatives but at least they don't put raid items directly in the cash shop and they remain relevant for a year or more
This sounds even stupider playing it back in my head after putting it into words
>>
>look up what land is up to these past few years
>keeps doing hits on kabbalah numerology podcasts and keep going on another philosophy one where the host keeps bragging about how smart his girlfriend is
senility comes for us all
