I just beat this piece of trash and am here after like 13 years of avoiding this shithole just to rant about it (thanks gamergate) - what the fuck are people on about when they praise this game? The entire story I was wondering when Sam would finally stick up for himself and tell someone “yo my kid just died, I’m fucking tired, everyone lies to me constantly, and I don’t know why I’m doing any of this” but it never happens. He has too many god damned friends and none of them do shit for him, they all openly manipulate and use him, and the game never gives you any real motive to care about anyone or anything you’re doing. Even at the end when there’s big battles and the continent gets connected, Sam barely gets mentioned.Initially I thought they had an interesting thing going with the idea of Lou carrying over as a mechanic, and once I realized “oh wait I don’t have to give a fuck about this dumb baby” I expected its influence to slowly disappear as Sam “got over” Lou’s death, but that doesn’t really happen. When the pizza guy gives you the lethal weapon cheat code right outside that bigass base, I was like oh wait, maybe they’re setting things up to where you’re going to be facing enemies where violence is obviously justified, I mean they’re killing babies, taking hostages, building bombs, and with the weird hinting at expansionist fuckery I was thinking there was a really interesting tension to explore there but… nope. Instead we get fucking nothing for 90% of the game and a repeat of the mgs4 liquid fight for no reason. Even the gameplay sucks. You have so many tools but nothing to fucking do with them. By the end of the game I just stopped giving a shit and coffin boarded everywhere. I have a really high tolerance for Kojima’s bullshit but this is the most disappointed I’ve been in a game in years, I’m wondering if maybe he really has lost it.
Kojima fans when they get a moviegame with dogshit gameplay for the 100th time
>>733763525How was Elle Fanning in this game? Were there a lot of scenes where her shoes were off and she was barefoot? Were there any close up shots of Elle Fanning’s bare feet in this game? Just wondering if I should buy this game or not.
>>733763525I agree. The game was pretty disappointing overall and once again i just cheesed zip lines everywhere. The best experience i had with the first 2 games was before you get your first bike.
>>733763630yea there’s a lot of her feet and she shows her armpits a lot in the photo mode for some reason. Sam’s bedroom wall in my game is covered in pics of her armpits
>>733763797Holy based. Pics?
>>733763616it’s not even a good moviegame. I loved MGS4 and that’s Kojima at his most “pls let me make a movie” - this is just terrible. There’s nothing in this game that DS1 didn’t do better
>>733763914>There’s nothing in this game that DS1 didn’t do betterElle Fanning feet and armpits.
>>733763849I would but I don’t feel like going to my ps5 and booting the game up to take screenshots. it made the reveal that she’s his daughter fucking hysterical for me though>>733763984yeah ok you got me there
>>733763525It's a thing with DS2. They work him like a horse and the pace of the missions is very fast. There is no time to be "stuck in a cutscene", get back out there asap and play. In my opinion they took this too far and it left me starving for some cinematic downtime, i wanted to hang out with Tarman while he lore dumps me about the ship's controls and such things because it's such cool sci-fi ship. The Lou business made Sam appear like an idiot, i don't know why they did the reveal this way and as for the gameplay mechanic i agree it's not interesting. It's too normal, it should have been bold.Switching weapons to lethal mode and back on the fly is a great mechanic. Guns are gameplay things in this so i think your expectation of narrative consequences wasn't fair and too much.Gameplay does not suck i'm sorry but no. Yes the tools aren't as useful as they pretend to be, it fascinates me that Death Stranding managed to invent "pretentious gameplay".
>>733764354I didn’t expect narrative consequences, I actually expected the opposite. It seemed clear to me that Sam was beginning to go up against enemies who would basically stop at nothing and were progressively getting more violent, and realistically you can’t just KO people like that to get rid of them. Even Higgs as a main villain again made me feel like things were going in this direction, especially with his taunting. I fully expected there to be a point where the game essentially goes, hey it’s the sequel, go ahead and kill a couple guys. I even thought they were hinting at this in the “should we have connected” tagline for the marketing material. I was fully assuming the narrative arc of the game would basically be asking how far Sam is willing to commit to the nonviolence thing this time around, basically baiting the player into wondering if they’re helping people or getting used as an expansionist warpig by APAS and their buddies. I realize that would have been pretty dark tho but there’s no real catharsis in this game.
>>733763525Pleb Filtered.
>>733764701Should we have connected (not) is present in APAS corrupting the chiral network so it does end up as a legitimate theme. It's not present at a smaller scale with the shelter dweller stories since the people are rather happy to connect and are oblivious to the main narrative. I don't want to count the plate gates as a important manifestation of the theme. Kojima held firm to his idea of non-lethality and wasn't willing to compromise this hallmark of the franchise. Ghost mechs are already dead how convenient.Sam does not question things or enter the conspiracy, it's not been his character and i liked him specifically for that. His role in the play is to know what's right and do the right thing while other characters are stuck in the quagmire. Higgs joins him at that level, Higgs was also used by the same people who used Sam.DS2 was stylish almost surface level but DS1 was too since the interwoven intrigue were just mystery thriller stuff about state secret. There are reflections in both games though about anthropology, accepting change personal and societal, sci-fi visions of a possible future and the two games don't tell the same thing.bump
In DS2 the struggle of humanity in this new world of death is coming to an end. Humans are starting to use the tar and invent BT technologies, come into symbiosis with the chiral world. Elle is the evolved adapted human. Death Stranding is a transhumanist piece, it first broke our world and now it rebuilds it different without disrespecting humanity. Classy sci-fi musings in my book.
