Just finished Mary Skelter 1. Is Mary Skelter 2's dungeon design and class system any better? I found 1's to be a little lackluster in both departments, but I did enjoy the world at least.
Gretel and Thumbelina best girls, by the way.

From what I remember, 2 did improve on those aspects, but only marginally.

I don't think there's a single IF/CH game with actually good gameplay design. It just ranges from bad to merely mediocre, despite their massive catalog. It's a shame because some of their titles have genuinely great characters and even decent writing.

No, it's significantly worse. Two classes (Fighters and Scientists) completely dominate while the others are either decent for one niche (Archers, at Kagome Kagome) or outright trash (Liberos and Mages). Nightmares had a much more balanced system where each class excelled at different things.

Good tas-

Nah, I take that back.

Do they have sex afterwards?

It's a little bit better at those. Mary Skelter is generally the best IF has to offer. Don't expect it to get better or worse, it just changes a little.

i played it recently and have similar feelings, haven't played the sequel yet but i'm also hoping it improves a bit. i liked the giant bosses that you have to fight through different floors, it was a cool concept.

very based

yes, 2's maps are smaller but has keys spread across multiple floors forcing you to explore and backtrack which is more interesting and better design overall
although smaller maps bring another problem of unavoidable nightmares as they easily cover half of the map
1 is stupidly large for no reason, and most areas are pointless or literal death trap when encountering nightmares causing me so many resets they clearly never test the damn thing

>class
no, they try to "balance" things out in 2 but somehow make it worse
mainly about magic being OP in 1 so they nerfed it to the point of unusable with the long ass cast time and weird area effect

I only played 2 and not 1 so I can't speak as to how they compare.
2 had a lot of potential in dungeon design with the abilities it gives you, but it never really realizes this potential.
I don't remember much about the classes but I do remember that most learnable skills were strictly worse than basic attacks.

You did give Cinderella the fairy tale prince ending she deserves, right?
