What confuses me about these GAAS bombs is the sheer hubris and arrogance of the developers. They didn't even do ANY external pre-release testing for Highguard. They based all of their grand plans and expectations solely on the internal testing and peer feedback.

Even if they managed to go with a visual style that wasn't so painfully generic, its gameplay never looked like anything other than what is already out there. Advertising and general awareness is one thing, but you still need something for people to really dig into in order to maintain popularity. The question for most live service games in particular, is "why would I play game X over game Y?" And usually it's a twist on the genre, a unique visual style, appealing designs, engaging lore/story, or a lower barrier to entry. But I don't see how High Guard aimed to set itself apart.

In Highguard, there is nothing, no risk, no thoughts, no RNG, nothing, it's completely wasted time, everything would be objectively better if the game just started you with the gear you'll loot effortlessly instead.
