It's crazy to think that after all this time you still are given fuck all in terms of terrain generation control. A couple of shitty presets, mostly tailored to niche use cases. That's it. Where are my fucking sliders? Why am I not allowed to finely tune how normal or wacky the terrain is, how varied the biomes are, or how often floating islands spawn and what size? No, instead, give me shitty animal I don't care about #127388.

Henrik Kniberg, the guy who worked on Caves and Cliffs, actually massively improved the terrain generation overall. Yes, the huge caves, waterflooded caves, rolling hills and valleys, and fjords can be annoying. BUT he enabled those steep cliffs, arching and overhanging formations for all biomes again. Beta 1.8 through 1.17s mountains outside of the mountain biome were at best as high as Y=90 and much rarer.

I'm currently playing on a 1.20.1 server with my friends and was pleasantly surprised to find some huge, 160 block straight cliffs falling into a massive ocean on vanilla (we have biomes o' plenty but that is in a vanilla biome)
You don't see stuff like that anymore..

The big ones were Industrial craft, i loved that mod with the nano suit and the mining laser shit was awesome, but then it just kinda...died out.
