I like jrpg mechanic more. 4 dudes in a row is just fun. But writing wise obviously Japan can't compete - it's always teens save the world, fight god etc. only semi recent Jap game that didn't seem copypaste was Yakuza like a dragon. Maybe the first jrpg ever with a mature cast. I wouldn't mind a clash of pathfinder wotr writing mixed with jrpg fight system.
