The yearly release schedule is rapidly failing to the constant updating live service battle pass model, but that Space is just dominated a few big players like Fortnite, making it difficult for any new blood to enter without a sufficiently large / well known IP to dress it up. Maybe RPGs if a true breakthrough happens with them.

I think Call of Duty's biggest problem is that it didn't attract high quality customers who had faith in the IP and devs, they just wanted the latest flashiest popular multiplayer game and when that wasn't Call of Duty anymore they all left
