According to interviews with people involved, the Japan Fair Trade Commission conducted an on-site inspection of Microsoft Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of IT giant Microsoft, located in Tokyo, on the 25th, citing suspicions that the company may be violating the Antimonopoly Act by refusing to allow users to use its software on rival cloud services and by charging high fees. With the competition for market share in the cloud service industry intensifying, the JFTC is likely investigating the possibility that stricter software usage conditionsmay have hindered competitors from gaining customers.https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2026/02/25/companies/microsoft-antitrust-probe/

Isn't it the same case as Valve with Steam, that everyone uses Office because the alternatives suck?
>>733777484As the image syas its not a case of "x is better and we are using that" but a case of microsoft not making things available to use elsewhere.
>>733777484I hate Valve but you can install STEAM on Windows, Linux or MAC, they offer their services, games compatibility is another issue
This is related to Microsoft having exclusive control over Phantasy Star in the west since it's all on their Azure servers. Sega and competitors were removed control.
>>733777484the alternatives work. The problem is communication. If my bussiness partner uses ms crap then i have to use ms to work with him. Thats exactly why they make file formats copyrighted secrets. PDF solved it somewhat as you can make/read PDFs without windows but a lot is not of it demands excel spreadsheets and similiar crap.Oh and where that failed they also straight up bribed decision makers to use their software. There was a pilot project here to use linux and ms gave decision maker $2m and he went back to okay everyone uses windows.
