Do you collect every game or just ones that you like? For me? I only buy games that I love physically. For example, on PS5 I don't care for Spider-Man so I haven't bought Spider-Man Miles Morales, but I do like horizon so I own all horizon games physically. For switch I don't care for Mario Sports games so I don't own any but I love Mario kart and physically own 8 deluxe and world.
>>733782912A lot of nu/normie collectors are just compulsive buyers who want to buy stuffOnly a minority is either >a gamer who buy but rarely or never sell, which >a gamer who mostly pirate, but sometime buy his favourite gamesIt got so bad that every game tripled in price and even recent game from the moment "they go oop" can double or triple. I know people who spend their whole wage trying to buy all the limtied run garbage for games they never played or will ever play
>>733782912I tend to go for games i genuinely care about. Sometimes go for games that look cool. But nothing more as km not a hoarder. Imho most people with full libraries and such are just glorified hoarders
>>733782912Unless you're rich you should just collect what you really like and keep it as narrow as possible. So instead of collecting for an entire system, collect for a specific series/dev/etc.
>>733783405>>733783763>>733783832I never understood why people want to have a complete console collection, like is it that important to have every single PS1 or GameCube or N64 game ever made/released? That's just a stupid waste of money. It's much better to collect for games you like because later in the future you'll get nostalgic and want to relive those memories again.
Collecting is a compulsion to grasp a sense of control over the precarious physical world. Collectors convince themselves that by possessing and knowing about and caring about frivolous physical trinkets, they can sustain the pretense of having an important role and identity that would prevent them from succumbing to despair. It's giving in to the illusion, it's willingly shackling your body and soul to the fallen world, and devoting your life to rummaging through the refuse of other people's efforts. In a way it's freeing, to accept your humiliating position in the great game.
>>733782912>I only buy games that I love physicallySame way. I'll typically a play/pirate a game first and then buy it physically if it left a particularly lasting impression on me. This keeps my collection consolidated with things I actually care about.
>>733784063I don't even care about preservation. I just buy what I like and if that game is rereleased on new hardware I'll buy it again physically. I've own every single version of resident evil 4 since it launched on the GameCube.
Collecting games is fucking sad and a waste of money. My 49 year old brother does it and its the most pathetic shit I've ever seen. All he watches on YouTube is videos of game pickups. He doesn't even play the games. If you're anything like him please grow up.
>>733784189Wow congratulations.
>>733782912I love the PS1 and try to buy physical when I want to play because I enjoy collecting and playing on OG hardware. But I also have standards. If a game is crazy expensive or hard to find, I have no qualms booting up duckstation. I won't go out of my way to buy shovelware I have no interest in playing either.
>>733782912i just like having a nice little corner in my room to gawk at for a moment. it's a shame that this generation will probably the last for physical discs, makes me wish i never sold any of my games. my PS4 and switch collection used to be so much bigger
>>733784608I don't consider myself a collector, just a video game player. https://youtu.be/7IrTRu0RoLU?si=PotTh1iBIUhsUast
