The dramatic improvement in graphics brought about by the 6th gen allowed the devs to flex their muscles with new effects such as water, advanced lighting and physics. But at the same time it was all done in an era before the generic photorealistic look took over, and locales still had to be interpreted by an artist first and foremost, which resulted in a lot of wholesome iconic beach levels. As games began chasing realism, we lost that magic. Now everything aims to look as close to real life as possible and that dreamlike, slightly exaggerated charm has faded away.In those games, you can see a mixture of tech and genuine love for the planet with hopes for the future. We will never see such optimism again.
You realize that since you posted Ape Escape, you're inadvertantly turning this into a pedo thread?
>>733784410there's very little that can't be taken as a dogwhistle or shibboleth for at least one cabal of ritualposters, at a certain point you just need to post shit
>>733783546>im stuck in the past because i never grew upsorry to hear that anon
How many times are we going to have this muh 2000's beach setting thread?
There is "hope for the future" only in Japanese games. If you look at Euro games they were already full of despair.Banjo games introduced the "polluted water level" trope and it never went away. Rayman, Donkey Kong, games like Starshot Tonic Trouble and Silicon Valley, they were all about filthy industrialism taking over nature.Even America had sudden waves of such horror like Oddworldhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irw0gTM38HQ
why is this the new meme? is it a reddit thing?fuck off
>>733783546it's because back then people had money to travel and developers wanted to make video games feel relaxing like taking a vacation from real life.now you are stuck in this hellscape. good times are over.
>>733784817sorry its not a bbc/marathon thread anon :(
>>733784687better be stuck in the past when games were still good instead of now when they're shit and full of niggers
>>733784751Until the bots decide to change subject
>>733784817It was brought in a video essay
>>733785158>he's not having a blast
>>733783546Same. I generally miss the early century obsession with ocean and tropical aesthetics. It really is the most beautiful and comfy part of this planet
>>733783546
>>733784410>look at video game>immediately thinks about sex with children in a related game
For the life of me, I really do not understand why beach and tropical water settings are not the "main" areas for way more games.
>>733783546We have this thread every week
Why were nips so far ahead on video game beach technology, and why did they suddenly just stop?
>>733784410Every game that isn't a Concord-like would be a pedo thread by that measure.Games are made for kids, thus it makes sense to have kids in them.
