>>733786553Honestly in retrospect I feel like Halo would've been way more compelling if MC was just some random grunt that somehow survived the Pillar of Autumn crash, was the only one alive who carry Cortana around and then through sheer tenacity managed to stop the Covenant and destroy Halo and escape.Instead it just made the post-golden age era of FPSs obsessed with making your MC some super duper spec ops dude but without the pulp hero sentiments of BJ Blazkowicz or comic book schlock goofiness of Doomguy or Duke Nukem or Lo Wang or the gameplay incongruity of someone like Gordon Freeman. Even Call of Duty which started off as defying this trope from Halo and Medal of Honor eventually devolved into spec ops jackoffery with COD4.
