Ds2 is well known for this, sometimes the boss isn't as hard as the level that leads you to it, most of my memories of this game were in the poison windmill area with all the vases poisoning you if you dare break one by mistake

This. Dark Souls 2 chose the dark path of trying to make people do the dungeoning in the dungeon crawler instead of just spamming roll and getting to the fog gate. It was the only real alternative to the spastic anime gameplay of the later entries. And it failed.

I finished dark souls 3 and elden ring, thought i'd give dark souls 2 a shot but overall the game design is night and day when compared to the others, you are not given a fair shot against most of the mobs, the beginning tutorial forest area has ogres that can one shot if you get grabbed, if you try to hit them from behind they throw themselves at you, i had to completely run away from them, why? why put a an unbeatable enemy in the tutorial area?

The ogre is a late-game enemy, you're supposed to come back to him once you've reached 105 Agility and unlocked the summoning items so you can summon your friends so they will tank the grab attack.

Iron Keep needs tweaking in Scholar. I think it's funny that once you enter the actual big area where the bridge is inside, there are several knights from WAY back in the map behind the Smelter demon who get perma aggroed and won't deaggro. They will follow you everywhere. While the first few knights to the left and on the bridge deaggro if you go back the way you came.
