I dont understand what fantasy world creators hope to achieve by taking a human and messing with the proportions or facial hair amounts or skin color a bit and calling it a different race. Its not like they have this grand setting where things are thought out and the evolution of different species is a big thing.They dont think how things would ever work out if the differently proportioned person wants to live in a place designed for humans, how fucking annoying everything would be and youd be at a constant disadvantage. The gritty series just go "oh and heres species Y that some guy somewhere oppresses because their ears are wrong shape". Imagine being a race where you're called "x-lings" because you dont have any fucking culture or heritage. You're the dnd creators afterthought race because lotr books ran out of names.
