Why are there so few and they all flop?
>>733788738I heard the Sailor Moon arcade beat 'em up was pretty good.
The answer is simple. Magical girls are something niche that isn't going to get very popular or mainstream, the Sailor Moon franchise is the exception. If one doesn't count things like Puella Malli Madoka Magica and Gushing Over Magical Girls which are made for older audiences and, of course, men and maybe lesbians and bisexual people but mostly men, it's a game that is made for women and girls and may have less universal appeal than something like Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia etc.I like the Blue Reflection games but they are destined to be games that aren't very popular for several reasons, including, again, the fact that magical girls are something niche for the most part.
>>733789275>madoka-style with heavy story and misery porn>persona formula with dating/everyday life sections and combat sections>attractive female characters>challenging gameplaySounds like a good game even normies would play
>>733790316Persona, especially Persona 5, is very popular for a reason, the formula of ''dating/everyday life with challenging gameplay and turn-based combat'' works and many people have played the games, I can't deny that attractive characters, both male and female, is also part of why it's so popular, but the first part ''madoka-style with heavy story and misery porn''...yeah, definitely not, something more violent and heavy than Persona to the point that it can be uncomfortable or grotesque would be off-putting for many people and if a Persona-style game with magical girls wants to be something even normies would play, it can't be more violent or extreme than the average Persona game.Let's not forget (*at least*) the English dub too, if it's a game that wants to be appealing to many people it can't be a game with only Japanese voices...and the Blue Reflection games only have Japanese voices.
>>733789275Blue Reflection's artwork appeals to me for similar reasons that Naoko Takeuchi does, the kind of misty, edge of memory feeling the coloring has. While some other aspects are a bit too spicy for me, still find myself lurking those threads.
>>733791205Really?I was under impression that games with angst, misery, and suffering are quite popular, especially if they subvert expectations with a cute art styleThat was Madoka's main appeal, wasn't it? Cute schoolgirls going through very rough and sad reality with sprinkles of hope and happiness here and there
>>733791818me in the orange shirt
The 'Futari Wa's would fit in a beat 'em up like a glove.
>>733791305Right, the spicy content of the games especially the first game and dead gacha game isn't something for everyone but they have other aspects worth mentioning like the artwork and characters.>>733791595Really. Games with what you described or genuinely ''edgy'' games aren't as popular as they used to be, and if we take a cute art style and combine it with suffering or violent, graphic content, it's a recipe for something that isn't going to be popular even if it somehow works.I know that these may not be the best examples but it's not a coincidence that you don't see a lot of people talking about Corpse Party, Death end re;Quest, Outlast and Manhunt both in real life and the internet, violent games/franchises that are more ''death and suffering is horrible'' and less ''yeah, violence!'' tend to not be very popular, pretty much the only violent franchises that aren't meant to be (very) uncomfortable or off-putting in their violence and are very popular are...Mortal Kombat, Call of Duty, Resident Evil and Grand Theft Auto, everything else doesn't apply, and of course, none of those franchises can really be compared to something like Madoka Magica, Corpse Party etc, not even Resident Evil (it's another type of horror game).
>>733791818>Some people say, “Go public, go public,” but I don't listen.>My perception is that it is “illegal” and that will not change.Damn, disappointing.
>>733792591I mean, Omori is the closest possible comparison, with both suffering and happy/silly moments and a cute artstyle, and it got VERY popular, especially with zoomers not too long agoSo it can work
>Remake is better than the original in every wayAny games like this?
>>733794038Yeah, I won't deny the success of Omori, it proves that it can work at least.
>>733788738Actually...Magical Girl eroge is quite popularSome of the best H-games like HKR and Pray Game are centered around femprotag Magical GirlGuess japs really like seeing a pure Magical Girl get defeated and raped by monsters
More Blue Reflection art before this thread dies.
I don't have any Blue Reflection, so have these Pretty Cure instead.
>>733788738Magical girls are TECHNICALLY meant for female audiences, who don't play games that require thinking or reflexes. The closest you'll get are h-games, because those have the extra reach to men by being porn.
>>733789275Magical girl games are niche, but Blue Reflection is not a good example. It doesn't have a magical girl aesthetic and is clearly directed at the usual otaku audience of Gust.Magical girl games are niche because no one earnestly tries, not just with video games but even that kind of anime are barely pushed in the west.
>>733792456they got one for the GBA.
