So from 90s-00s when american media mostly focused on straight white men and women in focus, capcom and other japs made a lot of games about white heroes and heroines, its why steve or leon look like leonardo dicaprio in RE or kojima has infatuation with hollywood actors. but as american demographics changed, they shifted focus on mostly mixed/diverse presentation in media during 2010s and 20s, so now japan is slowly shifting and putting in more black people, like the new silent hill MC etc. Realistically whatever america shills, japan follows. It has nothing to do with love, most japs don't like english language or white people to immigrate into their country or race mix with them, they like american money and not getting nuked doe.

Snake, garcian from killer 7, james sunderland, all of resident evil, many nintendo characters, etc.For some reason american and european game developer can't quite the same as often for nip character, or even other gooks.The biggest exception are multiplayer game developers with franchises that have grand settings where they pull characters and stories from all over the world (mortal kombat, blizzard, league, killer instinct, etc.). There are a few exceptions here and there for single player games like sleeping dogs, prey, saints row, ghost of tsushima, mirror's edge, disco elysium. But none of these examples are actually iconic or even as beloved besides maybe characters from mk and league.
