And when those elements did come into the Mario world, they fit just fine. Hell, Diddy and the DKR cast fit seamlessly with Mario. DK being out of place is something the defense force shills made up to justify the new design. Rare DK, Diddy, Dixie, etc. never felt out of place with the Mario cast. I don't have proof on this, but I'd wager Rare specifically designed Diddy, Banjo and even Conker with Mario in mind so they don't clash, and they don't, even Conker fits in Mario's world.
