where are all the subnautica clones?
>>
Probably on steam mostly

sunk

There's Breathedge, but that's more of a parody than a clone. Also the sequel is taking forever.

And... uhh...

yeah it's weird there aren't more considering their entire dev process for the first game is online and and they've talked about all the good idea's they had (like gating progression/difficulty by depth)
an aspiring indie could essentially copy the whole idea and process and just change whatever they wanted.

what would you even want in a clone? scarier? guns? more/less sandbox?
I'm a dev and (like factorio) I dont know what I would do to even improve it.

>survival build/explore/craft
>but you actually have to have ideas and put work into your environments
apparently this is too much to ask for

Literally just copy the formula and do new story, cool environs, cool spooky monsters, etc.

I honestly still liked Below Zero even if the story of female MC getting into a robosexual relationship at the end was not one that resonated with me at all. Just exploring new areas and having new base shit to fiddle with was really fun. I am autistically attracted to the art style too. I really REALLY want to chug one of those big 20Oz water jugs from the desalination machine.

much easier to have trees, grass, and stone :)
bears, wolves, skeletons :)
upgrade your copper pick to bronze pick :D

One thing I like about depth progression is that I can have cool futuristic shit immediately without having to grind through 50 hours of mud huts like ark, palworld, etc
>>
>>733806070
huh, never thought about that
>progression involves "gates" that have nothing to do with manufacturing ability
i think the wildest thing i can think of if you physical cannot use certain items until a certain point. like you've got to grow a second arm before you can use some hi-tech thing that needs two hands

>your a robot and your literally too stupid to use a device
>try to use it
>screen goes all fuzzy and things stop making sense like your being overwhelmed

I think it was probably checking Loch Ness Monster books constantly from the school library as a kid, but I have major fears of open water and aquatic megafauna, but I also like being scared, so I bought this and turned on the VR version.

Call me a pussy, but it was too much. Playing it in VR, which does scale really well, and 3D headphones on, and sitting there on the escape raft at night in dark open waters with that giant moon hanging in the sky (I've got a fear of giant celestial objects too), and then if you jump into the water, you can hear the reefback's whalesong, and I just couldn't do it. I had to shut the shit off.

I would legitimately like one that doesn't have the cartoony aesthetic.

bigger map, deeper map i want to go thousands of meters down into huge biomes. subnautica goes in the right direction with stuff like the ilz, brine pools, huge reefs, etc. but it's not big enough especially for a vehicle like a sub.
