Why does nobody try to make an Xcom like during the Vietnam War?
>playing as a company of soldiers
>recruting GI's and going into dense jungles for weeks to finish an objective
>customize your guns and soldiers with stuff that fits in the era
>fighting endless waves of north vietnamese
>PTSD mechanics like Aliens: Dark Descent
Would make for a kino game.

Men of war Vietnam is the closest thing. The mods are fun like hamburger hill

The blue hairs infesting AAA wouldn't approve of a game that paints the American GIs as good guys.

Ah so is it squad based or is it more of an RTS?

They made an Official Platoon game back in 2002 which is essentially this.

Then why not make a game where you play as bad GI? like phantom pain gameplay but you play as not-colonel Kurtz from apocalypse now. You go around destroying viet Cong outputs using stealth and cqc and capturing key personel to be MK-ultra'd into your fanatic personal army. But unlike phantom pain, you don't just go to A location to kill B target, you also have to do edgy stuff like putting mutilated corpses around vietcong bases without getting spotted at all or putting the head of the wife of the local NVA commander on his desk without being spotted at all or killing anyon for psy-op purpose.
