i miss the barebones gameplay of release pubg.
all you had was hide, run, and shoot.
sometimes you were just completely fucked by the circle and your only option was to run through an open field and hope for the best, and most of the strategy boiled down to reducing the odds of that happening

all the BRs that came after like fortnite and apex took the focus away from traversing that map and positional advantages and put it on the combat. which is... FINE. but I feel like the actual sauce of the BR genre was lost somewhere along the way

anyway i tried playing pubg again recently and it has a forced tutorial.
the "just beeline for a car and drive around until you have a guaranteed kill angle" meta is just plain boring too

I have 1500 hours in that game playing since 2018 and quit it last summer. Uninstalled it, free'd up the space and I'm happier now. You should too. Wish I could remove this shit as my most played steam game on the top.

i dont mind pvp with friends but im not really trying to chat with random strangers or grind a ladder anymore
and modern gamers are more interested in winning than doing funny shit so you end up playing against the same 3 or 4 strategies over and over and over again

Yeah, grinding ladders is pointless if you already didn't break into the esports scene and playing that one game 8 hours a day is now your job. In the end, it didn't mean shit and everybody forgot about the game.

Launching up some Hytale server with friends, building shit together is more satisfying. 7 Days to Die is a good game too to play.
