>>733965572>AI is bad because someone used it in a japanese obscure game that nobody bothered to translate in 25 years

>>733968348I use AI translators 5 to 6 days a week. They are terrible, they don't understand context at all (japanese is extremely contextual) and they ad swearing and vulgarity when there is none in the original text. DeepL in particular is bad for this.
>>733965572That ruins it. I can't get angry at that. It's not in the game.

>>733970394It's just a game Dreamcast chads in the west have been wanting to play for ages that never got translated. This is also a title that for technical reasons we've been told for a long time would essentially be impossible. If you look into the game itself, it should be really obvious why SEGA nuts would be dying to play it.

>>733970394stupid fucking braindead zoomie nigger
>>733968348Kek you're a retard. Unless you do it yourself then a translation will always be subject to that, whether it's human or AI. They aren't going to put out raw AI translations, so it will ALWAYS be looked over by a human first and they will make any changes to it that they deem necessary, that includes adding in all of schizo boogeyman shit you're obsessed with, except now the actual quality underneath will be worse.
>>733969668>AI Translator>DeepLcome the fuck on why are there people this retarded in the world still spewing their stupid shit

>Already in 2026>They're still there to this dayGame is too accurate to real life
>>733973263They're just entitled. They want expert-level translations for free, and hacked into their game, and with no machine assistance because the integrity of a niche game from 25 years ago must be preserved.
>>733969668DeepL hasn't been even remotely relevant for like 3+ years now.
>>733972735You don't understand that the AI's are being trained by the same people who make the shit translations, and the work that AI translators churn out is as bad, if not worse.
>>733973886No they just want a human being to translate it.They don't want "expert" anything.
>>733971748Nah he's right. Keep crying meatcel.
>>733974457I highly doubt most localizations are being used as training data for AI. Localizations are so creatively different from their source text that I'm not sure there's any significant pattern that can be derived from it.>and the work that AI translators churn out is as bad, if not worse. It's definitely not. I've checked a lot of translations against an AI, and I would say it's 95% accurate, especially with full context provided.
>>733974521To translate something like Segagaga properly, it would require an expert. You underestimate just how difficult native material is.

>>733974972Ah, I see. If this was MTL 10 years ago, I could understand the disappointment, but MTL today is pretty functional, and I highly suspect most, if not all, translators are working with it.

>>733962189>>733963136Thank god they didn't fuck this one up, a lot of recent translation hacks try too hard to add their own "flavor" like forcing a bad dub over one of the original VAs because one of the contributors hates them, or allowing members of their private discord to add custom text lines that will show up throughout the game.

>>733962189Thanks for not putting "Segagaga" anywhere in the OP.
Yeah, they really did do that, huh?
>>733984095Guy who knows Japanese here. I can give my two cents on this guy's complaints>a805c: Not a question; should read something like "Please pick a day to announce the release date." (with "no comment" being a cancel option on whatever dialog this belongs to)This is accurate, but a nitpick. Translator harmonized the question with the answer.>a83b8: "Gold Flag Seed" is a nonsense phrase; "source" or "subject" would be a more appropriate translation for 種. Something like "golden material for a flag" could sound better, although I'm sure there's context I'm missing here. What the hell kind of criticism is this? 金のフラグ種 literally means "Gold Flag Seed," as in a literal seed that "grows" gold flags. It's a programming joke. I don't think this guy's played the game.>abbd4: The word "journey" is not present in the original, and the audience is likely unfamiliar with "Ariake". Maybe replace with "night walks"?The line is literally "No one can stop my Ariake." The translator added journey to make it make more sense. Ariake is a district in Tokyo which hosts Comiket. The critic believes 有明 refers to "night walks" which is laughably wrong.>aba54: I feel like you're missing the emotional impact of a man screaming "ああああ!" here. This is a nitpick. The vowel elongation on the copula is stylistically unnecessary to capture.>abd68: Nobody calls vector monitors "vector scan" in English.Nitpick. Some publications use vector scan.>abf5c: 肌色 refers specifically to the skin tone of a Japanese person. This isn't a horny statement; it's a racist one.Absolutely incorrect. While 肌色 does meaning skin color, it's very obvious the phrase "a game's quality is determined by the amount of skin (color)" is referring to showing off skin, not how much "color" is in the skin.(continued because this is going too long)
>>733986639Consider posting on GitHub to tell him that, because currently the anti-AI people are updooting him and no one's told him he's wrong.
>>733986639>ac390: "回り込まれた" doesn't mean "surrounded". The phrasing here is also quite awkward.Yes, yes it does. This is literally the message you'd see in an RPG to tell you you've been surrounded or caught off-guard by the enemy.>ac7c4: Should probably read "Creator (self-proclaimed)" to match original Japanese structure. This should also match the entry at 10b5f0, which seems to be better-translated.This is fair, but also a nitpick.>ac928: "sometimes!" should be "sometime".This is probably just a typo.>acb98: odd phrasing; might actually be intended to be read as a negative comment. Something like "Just the sound by itself is enough!" would be more accurate.Whose first assumption is to read this as a negative remark? Anyway, this is another nitpick.>acbbc: Original doesn't refer to "audience"; "視点" is closer in meaning to "perspective" or "point of view".From a strict sense, this is correct, but their translation is semantically equivalent.>ad23c: "Baku" is an onomatopoeia for a pounding heart. Would be better translated as "thump-thump!"Fair.>ad4b8: These probably should be translated.Fair.>ad4dc: This probably shouldn't have an exclamation point.Nitpick.>ad754: Likely should be "Oops...". Definitely not "Wow!"Not sure of the context.>ad7f0: Should be "changed", not "swapped"Swap is a fine for 差し替える. weird nitpick.>107374: Audience is likely unfamiliar with the word "izakaya". Use "bar" or "pub" instead.Says literally who?>1073a8: not just any previous company; the company you used to work for! This one's fair.>1074ac: this whole block is copyrighted characters/properties from other companies with censorship. Ex: "U*gi Tsukino" is Usagi, the protagonist of Sailor Moon; "Harukaze Do*mi" is Harukaze Doremi, the protagonist of Ojamajo Doremi; "Mi*ky U*o" is Minky Momo, etc. Most of this is garbled and/or unlocalized. This one's also fair. The translator clearly struggled on who these were.(Continued)
>>733987016>107fac: "Nekomimi" is "catgirl". This one should have been blindingly obvious.Depends on the context.>10dc80: The word "You" is misspelled. He's literally just pointing out typos which have nothing to do with MTL.>>733986963If they can't check his criticisms themselves, then they're a lost cause. It feels like nobody actually understands Japanese.
I've only played the game for like an hour, and I can't read Japanese, so I can't do a full comparison and analysis, but from what I've seen the translation is fine and people are making a mountain out of a molehill. It could probably use another pass, but it's not like the whole project need to be redone from the ground up. Maybe they can release a version 1.1.Also the game is awesome. "It never left Japan for a reason" cocksuckers can go fuck themselves.
>>733987302They're just whining to whine. I swear, there were more legitimate errors in P5's initial release than in this fan translation.
Trannies (asperger ill men with a crippling fetish porn addiction) see the letters A and I and immediately shit something up, even if it's something they'd actually like. This comes to no surprise as these people, even though being masturbation addicted, sterilize themselves to prove some inane point. If they just kept to themselves and contained their misery it would be no problem but they go out in the world to make everything worse for other people too so it is paramount to harm these freaks wherever you encounter them lest they destroy everything you love and cherish.
>>733987506The worst part is they probably use AI in all their translations too. They're literally no better than the guys who use it. Maybe even jealous a little that their special skill isn't so special anymore.
>>733980080>overtranslation of "inclusive" も>stock translation of volitional しよう as "let's"A better rendering of this would probably have been something akin to>"Amateurs' opinions matter!"Or something to this effect.Congratulations, you are playing SEA-tier scanlation sewage that was run through MTL and not even altered to make it sound like something an actual human being put their hands on.

>>733988370>overtranslation of "inclusive" もMost of the time this is true, but here it's actually semantically important.>"Amateurs' opinions matter!"This literally "your ass is grass"-tier translation. The original is a little stiff, but yours is just wrong. If you had written>How about hearing what amateurs have to say, too!Or something to that effect, then it would be acceptable, but you're just rewriting the line. >>733965572Exactly this >>733994489, why the fuck would they bother doing that? The #1 rule of a placeholder is that it needs to unmistakably look like a placeholder.Their explanation doesn't erase doubt because you have to wonder whether some parts of the MTL were still left in by mistake.
>>733992709>Why X areYou can't even speak English, you thirdworld subhuman.
>>733995031It's obvious they started with an AI base and then worked off of that, much like every modern translation. The real question is why do you care if lines from the LLM are kept in? It's virtually impossible to tell the difference nowadays.
>>733995252>it's virtually impossible to tell the difference between something that reads like an actual human being wrote it, and something that sounds like robotic sludgelol. lmao. This shit was not meticulously combed through by human beings. It didn't even require REAL fans doing REAL translations for REAL games like seGAGAGA(tm)!Do you wanna know how I know you can't tell if the text in your pic was MTL'd or not? Because it's perfectly literal. I mean, to the letter literal. A machine could've produced that, a fan could've produced that, an ESL could've produced that. Also I should mention that they only came out and said they used AI once like a month ago so yeah this did blindside everyone.

>>733997907That's why me and other people were so excited for it, because anyone that would even attempt tackling it, would have to undertake a gargantuan amount of work. >>733998769>Hell, you're not even qualified to say if they caught the references or not.Just boot up the game, you don't even need to understand a word of japanese to understand how there's literally no attempt at it. Anyone can see, even minutes in that it's full of nonsensical hallucinations where references are made.>Hell, you're not even qualified to say if they caught the references or not.I can understand more than what is presented so there's that, not that I'm bragging that I know more than other people, my level of japanese is nothing to brag about, it's just enough to play games, but this translation is just that bad.At least reply to my post, you little bitch.
>>733999315>it's full of nonsensical hallucinations where references are made.Feel free to point any of them out if they're so obvious. I'll wait.
>>733999394I'm saying it's obvious and that even you would be able to point them out just with the context of the game itself, without any knowledge of japanese. You can go ahead and look at it if you want, if you don't care about the game at all, why are you even here?
>>733998995Hint: It's in the first part of the sentence

>>733999756You can claim it's obvious all you want, but unless you've got proof, I'm not gonna take you at your word. I've hand-checked a number of their lines already and I haven't found any glaring issues.

>>733962189>ITS SLOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPfixed
>>734000368>nooo you have to translate it like a shitty scanlation!! you can't use technology!!!
Everyone loves to complain but no one wants to put the fucking work in 25 years for anyone to even attempt this shit and all you get for the effort is complaints and butt fucking faggots pissing and shitting themselves. This is why people don't want to do anything, because no matter what you'll never get respected when you complaining little do nothing's will shit all over it and provide nothing for anyone else yourselves.
>>733962189Based. One more for normalization. Fuck luddies, day of the rope soon
>>734000725Exactly. All their work has been written off because they were dumb enough to be honest about using MTL/LLMs. People should be happy they actually provided something for the public, but instead they're acting like a crime has been committed against them.
>>734000725The problem with translating older games is often extracting and recompiling the text more than the actual translation workYou need someone with some very dedicated autism to figure that shit out for any game thats not on some generic modern game engine
>90's and 00'sThis "untranslated game" is the best>Someone translates and it's actually mediocre or bad>20'sAI BADThe correct sentence is *asks Google Translator*Why are you still bothering to talk and discuss games with weeaboo trash?
>>734000839>All their work has been written off because they were dumbUnironically a perfectly valid reason to write off somebody's work.It doesn't matter how "hard" you work to build a house, for example, if you disclose to the buyer that you and the rest of the construction crew have been shitting in the living room for the duration of the build.
Post your hands.
>>734001254Bad comparison considering AI translations aren't anywhere bad like they were just a few years ago. It's more akin to finding out the cookies you wanted were store-bought rather than homemade.
>>734001254That would be more like you disclosed that you used machines for construction and you got pantshittingly mad because of it lol
>>734001579This kek
I bet 99% of the faggots bitching here don't even care about the game itself.
I think an unspoken but extremely important part of translation is the trust between the translator and the reader. The reader, who cannot speak the original language, must trust that the translator is doing a good job because they have no other means to verify by themselves what is truly a "good" translation or a "bad" translation without the assistance of ANOTHER translator/translation tool (ironic) explaining it to them.Basically, they should just start lying about using AI, most of the pigs would be happy with their feed because they wouldn't be told they should be angry. It's just what they deserve.
At the very least, it's cool that the groundwork for a better translation is there. But I don't think what they've done is especially awful either. They disclosed their methods, shared their resources and invited people to make their own corrected version if they'd like.
>>734001702They don't. Some guy on Github wrote a laundry list of complaints without even playing the game. He just took a bunch of lines from the source text provided and started complaining.
>>734000839Yeah. It's sad to see, as obviously there was much more work done on it than just MTL prototyping. Even then, the most vocal complainers have never translated anything or contributed to any project. If something doesn't meet their impossible standards, it must be shat on. Meaning, everything ever to exist is shit.
>>734001579what's funny in that in this case, the house is broken, garbage, there's gas leaking out of the tubes, flooded, and so on, but there's this really adamant group of autistic kids that will defend it just because they really like construction vehicles
>>734002027Oh really? Why don't you post examples of egregious mistranslations? I'll wait.
>>734002093That would require him knowing Japanese

>>733965572AI is amazing at translation.
Not a single complainer in this thread even cares about the game in the OP.
>>734002506It's their holy mission to shit up anything that doesn't pass their purity tests so the heckin evil AI won't be normalized
>>734002506They just look for any fodder they can find to fuel their anger. It must be tiresome being that miserable all the time. They don't actually give a shit about anything.

>>734002625People still think we're in the duwang days of fan TLs.

>>733975772This guy is a monumental fucking faggot, holy shit. >>734002970anon... you can AI translate games yourself... you can experience any game you wantwtf are you saying?

>>734003256It's a big title, long lauded by EOP retards. It's Sega's Earthbound.>>734003272No, I'm right. Trannylators get a lot of shit wrong, but MTL slop gets everything wrong.
>>734003256Because the creators were transparent about using AI as a base for the translation and this means it's TERRIBLE.No evidence has really proven the translation is terrible, but we must trust that it is.
>>734003380Hmm, no. I’m pretty sure that’s not right.
>>734003380MTL gets more right than trannylators. What are you even talking about?
>>734002983I don't get it. What's wrong with this?
>>734003451Nothing. He's just nitpicking it because MTL le bad
>>733998409The reality is that once someone puts out a translation for something, the demand for someone else to do it goes down to almost zero, and the e-peen for someone else doing it goes down that low too.Take a VN like FSN, the Mirror Moon patch was total dogshit. But hey, that's what everyone read!
>>734003393>>734003380that's retarded but thanks for letting me know also in unrelated news, this translation just hit recently.
>>734003259what?
>>734003440How many languages do you know?
>>734003568Just Japanese and English.
>>734003440trannylators also use AI tho
>>734003602You must not know either of them very well if you think MTL is a substitute.
>>734003568All of them.
>>734003649This is true, but sometimes they clearly don't use it like pic related
>>734003680No, I know every language and you’re wrong. I can say this because I’m fluent in machine language.
>>734003680I never said it was a substitute, but it's pretty damn accurate nowadays regardless of your biases against it.
>>734003851It's really poor with low context situations, and basic references go right out the window. You seem to be mistaking "good at making something that reads like the other language" for "translation", it's much better at making something read fluidly than it is with actually being remotely accurate.
>>734003804They use AI as a base and then they add their own flavor to it
>>734003974If it changes it from one language to another then that’s a translation.
>>734003256I'll spoonfeed youSegagaga is a game made inhouse by Sega developers during the demise of the DreamcastIt is essentially a parody game that takes all the corporate non-sense at Sega, japanese black company culture, the whole industry, and frames it in all to be experienced in the game. It is one of the most interesting video games ever made and has been on the way of a lot of people for a long time. Due to the circumstances of how and when it was released, it is a very short printed game, just the fact that it was officially released is quite insane by itself.Because of the contents and what it represents, it is nearly impossible to be translated, due to all the references it makes and because of that it became this white whale of fan translations.Cut to modern time, there's buzz about someone working on it, and people are excited. Fast forward to today, the project is released, and it's machine translated with broken english. Now there's a lot of talk about different things, most people, like you see in this thread have nothing to do with it and are just throwing poop over being AI apologists and being anti AI and all that. The real controversy comes from this one group taking the project and releasing in a poor state for the sake of being the first to do so and gain notoriety for it. All in all, no real effort was made to translate Segagaga and a small niche of people was upset by the bait and switch, the masses are just retarded shitflingers like you see in every translation thread.
>>734003974The context can literally be given to it. You're probably not aware just how far it's progressed in that last couple years.
>>734004159>with broken englishSource?
>>734004193>just how far it's progressed in that last couple years.Oh, you're just a jeet, never mind.
>>734004019They definitely do, but this line and other examples suggest that not every line is checked via AI, hence why you get strange errors like the one I posted.
>>734004159good post
>>734004257Yeah, I'm a jeet for stating a fact. Sorry you're losing your job to machines, Katrina.
>>734004159>it's machine translated with broken english. Please post the broken English, anon. I'm sure you have many examples.
>>734004257>Oh, you're just a jeet, never mind.
>>734004318In future, could you just sign your posts with "anti-luddite" so I don't accidentally respond to you as if you were a person? Thanks, appreciate it.
>>734004370They never can!
people have posted examples ITT and you say it's not broken because it sounds fine in uttar pradesh
>>734004507Quote one of them.
>>734004370>Why do I face with such criticism...Oh yes, PERFECT English!
>>734003246Hey retard, it actually requires a ton of software engineering knowledge.
Before DeepL, people would regard 'translators' who 'consulted translation software' for their work with suspicion. I don't see why this case is any different.
>>734004507You don't even know what the phrase "broken English" means. Which one of us was born in Delhi?
>>733987016回り込まれた means "got flanked"
>>734004604This was probably not AI, because it produces grammatically correct English.
>>734004507None of the examples are broken in any meaningful way.
>>734004765DeepL sucked too. LLMs are the reason AI translation even works as good as it does now.
>>734004865For an ESL like you, it can certainly seem like good English.
>>734004813It can be translated as "surrounded" in an RPG context. Just means the enemy got the jump on you.
>>734004960Is this one of the examples you’re talking about? >>734002983Which part of “Even I’m not in the mood to play!” is broken English?
>>734004604Okay, fair enough. You found one ESL phrase. But at least you know it wasn't machined lol
>>734005057"surrounded" implies a presence on all sides and that's just not what it means - "got the jump on you" is good though imo.
It must be pretty discouraging to work on something for 10+ years, release it, and then a bunch of faggots immediately comes out of the woodworks and starts shitting and nitpicking all over your work when it finally releases. Where were those people when the team that translated the game was asking around in the forums for more people to join and help? Not that I know if they did that. But surely these guys making a big stink could have lent their apparent high skills regarding the Japanese language to deliver a high quality translation if the final one is so shit?
>>734005256or maybe "you got outmaneuvered"
>>734005338>do shitty work for 10 years>people call you out for doing shitty work for 10 yearsThey earned every insult they get.
>>734005516shouldn't it be どこにいると思いますか?
I had a quick look at the translation from where it was linked earlier, it's really awful. Some of it is just your garden store variety incompetence, but honestly a game like this shouldn't have been translated to begin with. Too many of these lines are overt references or just basic role language that you can't get across in a limited word count.
>>734005256Maybe not in the strictest sense, but in game translation you'll see it more loosely rendered as "surrounded."Game messages have no been historically translated very carefully. For instance, the famous Pokemon battle message "It's super effective!" is actually "効果は抜群だ!" Pretty close, but not exactly the same. Or another example is in DQ "STATUS" is actually "つよさ"
any TL of segagaga that didn't come with a PDF of liner notes was always gonna be subpar
>>734005727That would require the translators to know what to include in the liner notes to begin with.
>>734005646You're only saying that because there's controversy surrounding the release.
>>734005724>you'll see it more loosely rendered as "surrounded."it serves the purpose well enough i don't actually care all that much gotta bounce later
>AI GOLDDownloading now. Fuck trannies. SJW fucktards killed gaming.

>>734005969Holy based

>your quality fan translation before AI

Would you guys be terribly upset if we started taking about the game now? I don't mean to be pushy or anything though.
tendies..
>>733975772I don't like AI either, but if he cares oh so much about this game then why didn't he translate it first then?
>>733965572I don't get /v/. You guys were literally celebrating AI and making fun of people for losing their jobs to AI. But now you have problem with it?
>>734007548>But now you have problem with it?The tranny zoomers complaining about AI translations definitely aren't /v/.
>>734007548/v/ secretly loves trannylations and wishes more media from japan could be localized
>>734007478>but if he cares oh so much about this game then why didn't he translate it first then?there's been people who were slowly working on it on it but because this one group announced they were doing the whole thing they stopped, don't know who that one guy is or if he was one of them or not though
>>734003506I thought they translated this years ago? I still have the patched ISO in one of my HDDs but never had the time to play it
>>734003506Thanks for the news
>>734002625Holy kek. Dude says he's a sad sack racemixer using AI to talk to his dumb relatives who see no difference because they're THAT conditioned into being bugmen speaking in formulas, afraid not to trigger the chink anti-wrongthink system. Jesus Christ, have mercy on his soul, because I will not.
>>733975772this guy's kinda right, people thought jojo part 5 was shit for years because the translation was terrible
>>734006238Whoa, Anon you're supposed to post bad translation, not perfect.
>>734008932It's funny how Japs can smell your gaijin ass if you speak like two words lmao. Since they speak completely different irl and online compared to how hey speak in their media. Similar to how brainrotted zoomers use words like fr fr no cap that are not being taught in textbooks nor are represented in media. Even media that wants to appeal to the "hip youth" in the west is written by boomers or gen x-ers or even millenials who don't understand the current slang so they always end up writing something embarrasing. This happened on the Law And Order GamerGate episode, for an example.
>>734007740Basically. They want more of "she fucks like a tiger" localizations, instead of "xim is a cyborg agender army leader".
