What confuses me is how this makes sense strategically from a corporate perspective.Shutting down criticism or negative opinions is good for keeping existing fans happy (who want to live in their delusion) and to a certain degree your own staff who don't want to acknowledge that the product they made is bad. But this isn't how you encourage growth, which is the cornerstone of all modern industry. People who AREN'T fans yet, or who were fans but aren't anymore, will see this type of behavior as tyrannical and will be less likely to give your products a chance in the future. Long-term it is not a good idea to shut down criticism like this because you're essentially shitting where you eat and, eventually, the food's going to start tasting weird.
