After Re2 they made a few games and then bungled the storyline in sequel hell and then had to stop after Re6. Then they made RE7 which might as well be a new game then they went back and remade RE2-3. Now they're right back in the RE6 era. I don't think that the new game really feels like a "new" game, just an epilogue to the old RE storyline. It doesn't give us anything new.

They had a bond and both had an attachment to Sherry though Claire's decision to leave immediately to go find Chris strained that right at the beginning to the point where it makes sense that Sherry would have grown more attached to Leon for looking after her after Raccoon rather than being abandoned by Claire and just having her drop by from time to time.
