I feel like I'm going wacky over here, if you want pixel art wouldn't you want good pixel art? If you want realistic visuals with ray traced light wouldn't you want something consistent with that?

The idea is Pokemon Diamond did most of this already, and Octopath Traveler continued that. It's not impossible to do. It just takes a ton of pixel art.

And Eastward also looks like ass, precisely because the intricate pixel art gets smothered and smeared with post-processing. It's the exact same hideous, visual soup as HD-2D slop.
The only way I can see post-processing meshing with pixel art is if you do something like Hyper Light Drifter, where the pixel art is extremely flat on purpose, and has huge areas of flat, untextured color.
It's still a compromise, but at least that way, you're not smearing anything and you give the post-processing more room to breathe and add visual interest by itself.

Octopatb did it well by attempting to keep pixel perfect and low-poly/blocky designs for 3d things. Hack ass frauds will use a standard Unity asset lamppost in their world and smooth mountainsides and rocks.
Your example looks fine, but I wouldnt pay a company any money for a "remake" of a game like that.

Games are art and they're allowed to look different, just because its pixels doesn't mean it has to be the same as every other pixel game. For the record, Final Fantasy looks like total garbage up until 7.
