For me things just tend to fall apart once you enter a heroine's route proper. The most interesting thing, especially if it's a VN focused on romance over plot, is the build up between the protagonist and said heroine. Once the protagonist and heroine get together it just turns into setting up the next sex scene for the most part and then some kind of bad drama to have an ending.
What's a good VN with some decent player agency?
