No. In the opening, a major antagonist stole Yuna's dress sphere (it's one of those things sailor moon uses to transform) to steal her appearance (somehow) and put on this concert for some reason. Riku and Paine break into the concert and confront her. They steal back the dress sphere give it Yuna then the game begins. It's an actual complete waste of time which is funny seeing as how controversial this worthless opening was at the time.

It's sad because I like the premise of the B plot. With Spira being unsure how to progress after the Eternal Calm. It's easy to say "just drop Yevon" but Yevon is all they've known for the past 1000 years. They had something there

Yeah the B plot is very good wish the game did more with it and I think even the A plot has some legs dealing with the sins of the past war still. Just the meat and potatoes of it are fucking awfully thrown together. If Paine was more of a character it'd also help to balance Yuna and Riku's silliness.
