>>734207864
Off the Record is actually more fun if you've beaten the normal game with Chuck first, otherwise you can't appreciate the fun twists and changes OtR puts on the story.
>>
Why did they have to fuck our shit up so bad bros? They had the perfect formula down to a science here all they had to do was put it into new settings
>>
>>734215105
If I ever made a sequel I'd set it in tokyo and have it in a skyscraper mall, imagine more horror with japanese zaniness
>>
>>734215105
>dr1
awesome new concept
>dr2
less soul
>dr3
pretty cool but fucked up pc port
>dr4
they took the money and ran
>>
>>734215105
I think the original Dead Rising had a lot of funding and technical help from Microsoft since it was a 360 exclusive at launch. The later games clearly had less budget and skills behind them.
>>
>>734215105
DR 3 is them doing an extreme version of DR 2 did, AKA:
>bigger map
>more zombie types
>less babysitting NPCs
>more WACKY combinations
>easier timelimit
As people were saying 2 was better than O.G. DR 4 is them trying to make it bigger and wackier while simpler in order to appeal to new fans. They made Frank the MC because old fans were bitching about how lame early game Nick was and they already ruined Chuck. However, you can tell they wanted to make Vick the MC considering how much the story both glazes and excuses her action while demonising a flanderised Frank.
>>
>>734215295
nah it was
>1
soul and unique
>2
expanded on things while being it's own with it in Vegas and gambling (easier than the 1st)
>3
very mid expanded the mall to a generic city, shitty camera and ludicrously easy
>4
out of touch dogshit
>1 demake
objective downgrade in gameplay graphics and voice acting
>>
>>734215589
>2 was better than OG
Nah. The tone and style completely changes with 2. OG was fairly serious and all of the cutscenes and maniac encounters were played totally straight. Frank tries to reason with the maniacs in most cases, or plays along with them until they go aggro. Chuck and Frank in DR2 are doing faggy marvel quips left and right, and the whole game is more played for comedy vs. OG being fairly serious but with the ability for the player to inject comedy if they want through costumes, weapons, and things in the world.
>>
>>734214978
Gas Zombies were fine. They are 2's equivalent to 1's Soldiers (an advanced version of a regular enemy to signify that the game is heading to it's climax).
>>
>>734215776
I wouldn't say Chuck did a lot of quips until the second half of the game. Chuck was fairly stoic in the main game as well. However, that wasn't my point. My point was that reviewers liked DR 2 more due to how the combo weapons made it wackier and how the NPCs were easier to escort. So they just made a more extreme version of 2 for 3.
>>
3 is so fucking ass, and nightmare mode gives it faux-difficulty
in 3 i found myself not even struggling for time and i hated it,
2 i was fucking panicking for time and i loved it
1 is hit or miss sometimes but i love it
>>
>>734215797
>they were fine
Fuck you they were. Huge grab radius that instantly forces you into a QTE on top of an AOE stun (the gas cloud) that almost always results in you getting grabbed. They sucked ass and that part of the game was so shit it ruins almost everything beforehand. DR1's soldiers were also balanced in that you could avoid them, they'd only shoot you, and you can 1hk them with the 'pull out guts' move at high levels.

>>734216016
It's clear the devs who made 2 (who were NOT the devs who made 1) listened to feedback for the major issues (escort AI, Otis calling you all the fucking time, unreadable fonts, etc) and put their own spin on it. 2 isn't a bad game (until the gas zombies), it's just a different flavor of Dead Rising.
>>
DR2 is actually straight up shit. Its only redeeming qualities are non-cancerous escort missions and a decent map. Everything else is strictly worse. And I mean everything else.

You know how to spot a Dead Rising tourist? They praise weapon combos.
>>
>>734216210
combo weapons are fun it just turns retarded when the unrealistic ones took precedent and continued with the sequels making shit too easy

That's funny. I just have been playing it this last month and someone tried to join my game last week in this dead game, the connection failed tough. First time trying this saga. I will play off the record and then dr3.

I got ending S first and then ending A, which apparently it's the canon one?
>>
>>734216210
Weapon combos are a fun idea, but you quickly discover how there are objectively good ones (like boxing gloves + knives, hammer + axe) and most of the others are niche/gimmicky, or just suck ass.
>>
>>734216451
>>734216694
Combo weapons necessitates all non-combo weapons to be shit, thereby killing the very spirit of Dead Rising and limiting the list of functional weaponry down to a very short list.

An easy example would be to compare a standard baseball bat in DR 1 & 2. In 1, it's a high-tier weapon, but in 2 it is actually completely useless, since its part of a combo piece.
>>
>>734216769
honestly if they made the next dead rising as like a survivor looter shooter but with zombies and you could use anything off the floor as a weapon it would work
>>
>>734216769
My DR1 weapons of choice, ignoring book combo shit, are:
>metal pipe
>regular baseball bat
>regular pistol (for occasional precision stuff like popping gas tanks zombies are pushing around)
>sledge/axe

Those can carry you through the game.
>>
>>734216152
I found Gas zombies fine. I just swung the FUCK-YOU axe-hammer combo or the lightsabre and got through them. The soldiers were annoying due to them taking a huge chunk of your health and them being rather hard to shake off if they spotted you.

>>734216152
I don't think it is a bad game. However, what I do think is that it encouraged the devs to flanderise the best parts of the DR series while also minimising the parts that had heart. DR 1 was great because it was basically a time management sim bolted on a fun arcade beat 'em up. DR2 is great because it built off the time management sim and beat 'em up by adding an extra component for each. Zombrex for the time management and Combo weapons for the beat 'em up. 3 saw how popular the combat was and HEAVILY focused on it while reducing the stress from the time management which weakened the game flow. 4 fucked it by adding superfluous wacky abilities and as such felt like it had to remove the time feature so that players could truly appreciate them. This in turn made the game dull as the combat was fun due to the stress the time added to the combat.
>>
>>734216673
A End is canon as it leads to case west which then leads to DR 3. Though S and A have similar outcomes so it doesn't REALLY matter.
>>
>>734205584
they damage the game a bit. actually foraging for good weapons on site is obviously the best way to play DR

but it's not that cut and dry. everyone that played the original game by maxbooking toy chainsaws had about the same level of degeneracy in the experience as people that always had four pairs of knife gloves in 2
>>
You gotta risk it all...
>>
>>734217970
By the time I started book maxing the mini-chainsaws in DR, I was high level and felt like I earned it from playing the game 'straight' before then. Just like with not using the Real Mega Buster until way later playthroughs.
>>
>>734205507
Hey, it's that dude from kitty0706's video!
>>
>>734216954
I just spam knives if I'm avoiding the toy chainsaws. You get the edged book and then you can just kill yellow shirt zombies to get more knives in passing as you break them. They're good enough to clear out zombies for survivors. And you carry one higher tier edge weapon for boss fights like a katana or machete.
>>
>>734218271
If you're doing the chainsaw books, the Vietnam war vet's machete is also a 10/10 weapon and easy to grab since it's right in Crislisp's Home Saloon right as you enter North Plaza from the outside. And it fucking rinses bosses. And survivors.

Here's what I would do
>Cruise ship
>Convenction hall hosting an event (either for comics or anime)
>Washington D.C. Museum Strip
>Disney World
>Hollywood studio backlots
>>
>>734220930
Cruise Ship would be the next logical extension, because it's basically just a Las Vegas hotel on the water.
