Esoteric Ebb is out.
>>734265423Played for like 6 or 7 hours last night. Got a cool mimic cloak and am currently trying to flirt with the office lady angel. The game has so much shit and I keep staying up late so I miss all the morning events.
>>734265423Watched someone play it for an hour....... IT SUUUUCKSSSS ... but if you thought DE was impressive you'll probably like it
>>734267934What party are you voting for?
>>734268958>Watching people play video games are you a woman anon?Cause only a woman or a DUMB NIGGER would do something like that when there's a fucking D E M O
>>734268986Nationalists of course. But becoming God-king Wizard does sound intriguing.
Holy fuck this dude sure can blab on. Like, it's INTERESTING, don't get me wrong, but I keep nervously looking at the time passing by.
>>734265423So far it is pretty fun. it feels good being The Cleric.>>734269920This guy has a crazy amount of dialogue. I liked the whole resurrection section a lot.
Never heard of this, spoonfeed me
>>734270250Disco Elysium but instead of a cop detective story it's themed around a fantasy D&D campaign.
>>734270552Does it have Disco Elysium’s level of humor/charm? Stuff like dying from sitting in a chair wrong, or mercing a kid after requisitioning my partner’s weapon?Or is it like than tranny rat-furry game that was also “inspired by” DE?
>>734270817It's not quite as funny as DE, but you can insist to everyone you meet they should vote for you to the wizard god-king in the elections. You know, despite being a cleric. There are some pretty funny failure points like trying to flirt without having Charisma is always a hoot. But overall while the writing is fine it's a lot more, eh, philosophical, I guess?
Its kind of sad how "DnD but overtly gay" went from its own aesthetic to basically all fantasy becoming overtly gay.
>>734269920does ingame time pass every time you select a conversation?
>>734270250planescape torment, but your companions are organs inside your body
>>734265423Sounds like something trannies would call an OS update
By the way, has anyone tried it on the Steam Deck?
>>734265423I'm a bit surprised to see the generally positive reception this has gotten, going off the demo I played of it a while back. It felt very much in the same vein as every other DE-like game, hollowly copying elements from DE without really adding much. In particular, the fact that political alignments are a central part of the writing and character building for the Cleric made me roll my eyes. Did I miss something or did the writing improve since the demo?
>themed around DnDI have zero interest in your quirk chungus normalfag garbage.
>>734272990>hollowly copying elements from DE without really adding muchthis might be just your jaded cynicism>game with competing inner voices has politicscommon sense that it would. really most crpgs implicitly have politics between the companions in the party, making them actual politcal affiliations isnt muich of a stretch
>>734272005In fact time ONLY passes when you're in a conversation. But there's a lotta talking, so.
>>734273856>this might be just your jaded cynicismSure, that's possible. Feel free to convince me that's the case. What exactly do you think it adds, specifically? DE's political elements tried to say something about how people use ideology as a tool to comfort themsleves, provide clear answers to problems, etc. I'd expect something similar from a different angle, or at least for it to not tread the same ground as DE.>common sense that it would. It might be the obvious answer, since it worked in DE, but it can't be a forgone conclusion or the only way to handle it. >really most crpgs implicitly have politics between the companions in the party, making them actual politcal affiliations isnt muich of a stretchI think that inter-party politics are a different beast to actual politics, although there will be some overlap where in-setting politics is concerned. That said, I don't have a problem with them including actual politics in principle. In practice, though, it felt like they were included because DE had included them.
>>734265423Looking so much like DE makes me want it less. It might be neat, and all, but, so strongly taking from DE makes it feel like it lacks identity and confidence. >>734273856There's a difference in how one approaches politics, being heavy handed with politics is unnatural to most people's inner dialogue (Assuming a person has one), people explore the world without the political lens and instead trying to rationalize in a simpler, more pragmatic or moral ways, rather than a political science class using academia language. I dunno which way Esoteric Ebb does it (Haven't tried it yet, I'm gonna at least give it a fair handshake) but if it approaches it like I'm sitting in a college as people debate using words like "Praxis", it's not natural and is annoying. New Vegas is a decent example of a more pragmatic world, the only guy to try and lecture you with academic language is Caesar and it's to help sell what kind of person he is. Disco Elysium bounced between the two, a fair amount was rather naturally written but every so often characters would veer off and swap from speaking like people to speaking like they're having some academia lecture, and it took the wind out of it's sails when it'd do that. (It still was overall pretty ok and I liked it overall)
>>734269920The writer read a lot of Carl Jung's books. Given the nature of the game and how the dialogue takes place in your psyche I think it's a good idea. I wish it wasn't so hamfisted, though.
>>734269920>That art styleSoul alert
>>734275635That actually makes me want to play it more. I can understand getting hamfisted about it, it's not something you can just slip into a conversation easily.
>>734275470Your post reads as if you are describing the game without having played it.
>disco-like
I didnt luke DE, it felt extremely superficial and ''''subtly'''' bias. I imagine this is better because it is more focused on satire.
>>734276519there are certainly some bad ones out there.
>>734265423Can I actually fuck someone or not?
>>734270817The whole “joke” is it’s Disco Elysium in a more traditional fantasy setting. You’re still a human trainwreck with voices in his head who can’t shut up about politics and can literally die of embarrassment if you fuck up enough, but there are goblins and magic.
Can anyone give me a tip on the 2nd riddle
which class did you guys choose? I've been picking cleric and wizard dialogue almost always but the bonuses seem kinda shit, proficiency when outside for druid seems way more useful
>>734277102>The whole “joke” is it’s Disco Elysium in a more traditional fantasy setting. Its not a joke flash game, its actually a very well made and composed D&D campaign. Have you even played it?
>>734277216dickass thief ancap
It looks interesting but I'm a bit wary about how well a modern game that has politics / an election as a big part of its story can deal with it without it just becoming a clumsy soapbox for the dev's stupid opinions.
>>7342772166 int 6 wis Max ConRetardMaxxing
>>734268958DE was interesting because I had never seen a game like that. The painting art style and voiced skills were kino. And the Superstar Cop was fun.
>>734278073You can only be the first doing something once. There is a reason why games like Obra Dinn, Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds were wildly succesful, and none of the copycats (well, some of the Obra Dinn copycats have some success) have made it big. They are just trying to be a worse version of "that" game. Even if they are good, they are not breaking new ground.
finished it and enjoyed it. writing varies a lot. i thought the entire gorm sequence near the end was legitimately great but pretty much everything with the azgalist kid and her rivals was awful
