Of course, most more mature media can sometimes do this as a sort of parody or as satire that may also let them sell in more places. But no doubt it heavily affects stuff aimed at younger demographics. You aren't going to see anything aimed at Japanese children with protagonists that act immoral anymore. Kind of funny because Japan already was the country that would even have changes of heart in rape doujins. But I suppose even that wasn't enough dogoodery for PTA groups. Tldr: The shonen protagonist has to be a saint now.
