All Blizzard needs to do is make bosses have less health, mechanics take longer to execute, and tune cooldowns, diminishing returns, etc for PvP. Then you can play the game perfectly fine without addons.

There is probably a lot more, but if they just committed to a pretty consistent policy to rotate old shit back in and give you other chances to get it, more people would come back. There are different ways to do this ie AOTC mounts only drop if you toggled on a "maximum item level for this period of time" flag for the raid, so its always a challenge to do it right and can't just be overgeared. Otherwise, it becomes a similarly rare drop. Stuff that comes from certain events will eventually, become some sort of Timewalking repeat, or are available via another manner instead of gone forever.

A game running this long needs people to want to come back, catch up and do the cool stuff they missed in the interim etc..and Blizz' decisions are antithetical to that in some regards. Now, they're only getting more stupid by having other things like

The gameplay challenge will be exactly the same. If the average player takes 20 attempts to kill each heroic boss for the first time, then it will still take 20 attempts. If the average player gets to Mythic +5 after 2 weeks, it will still be the same. If it doesn't, they'll just tune it.

If in PvP some class is super strong because players can no longer see their cooldowns, they'll adjust whatever abilities need to be adjusted to be balanced for that.

What would come later the FOMO shit was more about time and was even less justified because it was more about doing X during Y, or specifically removing shit for the fuck of it (Brutasaur mount removed, then apparently went only on BMAH where it goes for one autist who bids literal client gold cap each time, rather than all the other goldsink mounts) rather than doing X when its hard. Even stuff like rare event shit or AOTC is annoying - I have a (non-corrupted, glowing) Moose mount from when I was helping carry others to get it but as far as I'm aware that mount is no longer available which is some bullshit. I stopped playing at the end of Legion/start of BFA and someone told me that the Hippogriff mount I have from that pre-patch event or whatever is still not available any other way. This kind of shit, even stuff I actually have and others don't. Hell, I had an actual Feldrake from before the Twitch shit.

The idea is that a mount that was only available as a several hundred/thousand dollar trading card years ago being normalized as Twitch giveaway is a move away from FOMO exclusivity; not a perfect one. They have a huge audience of people who USED to play, and they could get many of them back if they don't fuck up mechanically. Hell, EverQuest is still running and is much older than WoW, but that doesn't mean that its somehow beyond critique of game mechanics or monetization because the people who are playing it now are on the whole a small cadre of those who have been playing it since the 90s which only shrink. If WoW is starting from a higher peak, but they've seen contraction of player base with garbage like Shadowlands which is why they finally broke the emergency alert glass for housing despite it being 'in the works ' for years since there was a portal behind the portcullis in Stormwind decades ago. Its obvious the game keeps looking backward - stuff like MoP Remix and Legion Remix are two great examples and trying to get people who used to play to come back - if they want to do that more effectively they can cut out exclusivity FOMO bullshit.

EQ's servers are running, yes, you're right. It's just that the appeal is less to a narrow band of 90s nostalgia freaks (but it will get us, usually when there's a new prog server) it's an even narrower band of all-around freaks who have (or maybe don't) the disposable income to keep 20+ active paid accounts running monthly, for all their boxing/botting/whatever shenanigans.

I don't remember the specifics of that one (outside of Remix) but making stuff less tedious for old expansions I don't see as a problem. If you have some best in slot or super rare thing during a certain period, I don't see any issue with it being more available 3 expansions later when someone is farming Ashes of A'lar, Invincible etc. Though I do have more understanding for

Like the AOTC mounts - it would be trivial for the devs to set up a thing that if you want the 100% drop, you have to play through on Heroic with a flag that drops your stats to the maximum of what they would have been during that expansion. Hell, you can leave the Feat of Strength itself do during it during a given period, but the mount, titles etc.. should be available for those who do whatever the thing happens to be, no matter when, provided they adhere to whatever posted conditions. There are many different options to make this stuff less shitty. When I heard of others talking about Legion Remix, I knew many others who were thinking about the Mage Tower and the ability to get certain Artifact appearances they missed etc.. so they were frustrated that this wasn't really the case and some didn't really bother.

Especially after the BFA-and-forward fuckups, Blizz needs to signal that both with regards to storyline and monetization/gameplay mechanics/FOMO exclusivity shit etc.. they are passed the old bullshit and people have reasons to return while new players have reasons to give it a chance. Unless they want to cater exclusively to the people who loved The Great Censorship Patch of 2021 of course, but that's not likely to be a sustaining growth demographic.

As somebody that was dumb enough to actually buy WoW books, all of these female characters have been ruined. The fact that Jaina went through 4-5 phases of "kill horde" and "spare horde" got super fucking tiring and just feels like she's suffering from BPD and Sylvanas helping evil super satan by feeding him innocent souls until he starts quoting Lich King/Arthas was also retarded and last of all Maiev having all her character development nuked from Stormrage book and her hatred for Nelf Mages,attempt at killing Malfurion and then becoming Tyrande's right hand women is so fucking awful and garbage it makes me sick
