Recent luckybancho surveys put the playerbase at around half it's peak, or in similar numbers than during the stormblood release date. It's a significant drop in subs and they can turn it around with a good expac but it probably is the last chance to turn the ship around if an expac liquidates half your playerbase.

I don't understand how this is fomo though. I get that the angle is "old content scaled up to current expansion", but it's already old content. Like, no part of me wants to go back to the ARR Unreals and redo those. No part of me wants to go back to the HW Unreals and do those. I'm glad I got to experience Thordan in a context where everything doesn't instantly die and do zero damage, but it really wasn't all that great, definitely not as good as ancientfags hyped it up to be. No part of me will ever want to do Tsukuyomi Unreal after it rotates out.

By that same token, you could say that *ALL* content is fomo, because unless you have a static, you are never going to do MINE of a random Extreme. If you don't do the content as soon as it releases, you are no longer experiencing the content as intended. You can skip the ice bridge part in the Sphene EX now, for example. There is a whole ass mechanic, the only real mechanic in the fight, and you'll never see it anymore. And if you do so it, it's because your group sucks and it's a wipe anyway because everyone who is actually good and can do the mechanics already got their mount.

This Criterion in particular doesn't even give current expansion shit, it gives the same exact glow weapons that the Endwalker Criterion gave. The bare minimum should have been a new set of glow weapons for Dawntrail, but no, they just said "go get the ones from Endwalker, faggots"

I would love to say the game is dying becuase DT killed my interest and I've hardly interacted with the game much outside of logging in once every 30 days to keep my house but honestly, it feels fine.
Its declined from its peak player count but truthfully back then the game was overpopulated and at one point even had to stop selling the game because there was no room left.
It's in a perfectly healthy place in terms of player count, its defiantly hit its first major roadblock, post-peak and on the decline but if you created a new character today and logged in you would never noticed people were leaving in droves.
