I found out last year that Hachi's superpower was buying units in any city you owned. I had no idea what it meant when I read it years ago. And I recently realized Sasha's superpower was tied to how much money she had. Before I thought it's potency was random.

Man, AW was great. We used to pass three handhelds around between four of us at lunch, since waiting for one to go round was boring but four meant you were always bottlenecked. Three was the right number.

Favourite? Grit. But we tended to say no grit or colin unless you asked to either of them first, our local meta had them be strong. IDK what the current online meta is, just that hicks and jews were OP to us.

I have that fantasy AW clone sat in my steam library, I think I played a few hours and didn't go back to it. Didn't hate it just... you know how it is when you have a bajillion games.

Let's talk about game mechanics.
I've playing Days of Ruin recently, and there's many interesting ideas I would have loved to see in the original Advance Wars series.
In particular, I liked the level up system a lot, since it encourages you to preserve your old units by adding extra value to them (I guess that was the purpose).
However, the bonus are just puny. Veteran units don't really feel any different unless they reach level 3, which is very rare against a human opponent.

Eh...Preserving units is already really strong. The level ups aren't really necessary. If you ported that mechanic to the GBA games it'd be completely broken because of how much stronger defense is too(defense was nerfed in DoA). Certain COs would benefit allot from it like Eagle or Andy who already like preserving units but now those units can get Von Bolt stats. Any CO that already has defense like von bolt/Javier/Sturm becomes even more unkillable. Which lets to retain units and get more levels. Very obnoxious.

Yeah, the way defense works on AW2 is very broken. I think they changed the formula on Days of Ruins.
But I agree with you. Without further adjustments it would completely break the game. I mean, just imagine Kanbei with an extra 20% defense. Nigger would be invencible on forests with his super power.

Changing her bad luck for her not having any luck roll at all would be a nice start.
The main problem with Sonja is that her D2D and powers aren't really effective. It's more like they were designed to annoy both the Sonja player and the one that plays against her.

that's too much and you lose the fun of playing fow, I would give her +2 vision to all units by default, keep her disadvantages, give her a new power to reduce the enemy vision, the resoaning is that she's supposed to be smart and use recon a lot so she can find gaps in the enemy defenses, her superpower would make the enemy blind for the day allowing some crazy plays

DS Sonja is fine. Her flaw in GBA is that her D2D is pretty much negative. Every other CO gets compensation. Even Grimm gets 30+ FP which is enough for him to trade positively.
