Is Birthright still worth playing today? Or is it completely obsoleted by Conquest/Rev? I don't see this game talked about much nowadays.

Each enemy can only be used to gain weapon XP 5 times maximum, except for void curse enemies who give no weapon XP ever. So optimally you hit someone 5 times and then kill him and move to another enemy but in practice it's usually one or two times per enemy. But bronze weapons are good so it's not that bad to be stuck with them, the high level weapons have drawbacks which make them questionable a lot of the time. You can trap a guy and grind weapon rank forever on him, but it costs money and the weapon rank you grind is staff

Niles and Odin pairup can take care of the mages on the right side since Niles just doubles them. A freeze staff can also come in clutch here for preventing the soldier in getting to the village.
