I'm worried there is going to be an Act 2 moment where you are revealed to be "a fake" and somehow we're supposed to believe all the cool shit you did throughout Act 1 like shooting down 20 planes a mission was fraudulent.
>>
>>734964523
The Ace that dies doesn't really and come back to reclaim his title.
>>
>>734964681
That's still a "now there are two cakes" situation.
I'd rather there be a "you are a cool ace" campaign mechanic where your reputation is real as far as the game is concerned. If you pull off feats like tunnel running, nobody gives a shit if you are the original.
>>
>>734964523
How would they even do that? "It was all an AWACS' dream?" If you were flying and fighting ingame I don't know how they could say it didn't happen

>"Sir, we have evidence that protagonist man is... a fake..."
>"WHAT? IS THAT TRUE, PROTAGONIST MAN?"
>all your squad suddenly doubt you
>>
>>734967593
I dunno, 7 already had "fuck you protagonist work your way up again" almost right off the bat, I don't think they'll do it again even if the framing (pun intended) is different
I think it's more likely it'll be the enemy will figure out we're a fake, expect that to damage our/improve their morale, only to realise that we're much scarier than the guy they thought we were

>I think it's more likely it'll be the enemy will figure out we're a fake, expect that to damage our/improve their morale, only to realise that we're much scarier than the guy they thought we were
This would be cool, but I'm worried they won't do that because the alternative is easy cheap drama that makes no sense if you are good at the game.

Cheesy power-fantasy dialog?
Not saying you aren't entitled to have this in what is basically a minimal arcade game, that's just what it honestly is.

Not much of a fan myself. AC7 writing was honestly terrible IMO and I think they shouldn't try to have any continuity, but instead go full creativity each game.

I'm playing Nuclear Option now and I'm not coming back. No plot or cheerleading comm for sure, but that's not what I was in for. I don't even carry 20 anti-everything missiles anymore.

Nuclear Option?
No it's rather fast-paced.
It is best described as the simplicity of Ace Combat, with the depth of an alt-future DCS.

You are constantly flying low and behind terrain to avoid radar or escape missiles, anti-missiles defense are so damn good you need to get very close to get them by surprise or overload them with cheaper bombs/rockets.
The futuristic 360° camera tracking also let you ENJOY the explosion of what you destroy. It's a thing of beauty really (later on this webm you'll see a lone target zoomed in).

I won't deny that on some map, with slow plane/helicopter, you will take a few minutes flying to destination with a high risk of being shot down by a missile you had no chance to escape, jam, or shot down. But planning to avoid that and use the right aircraft+loadout for the right job is part of the fun.

How are you supposed to beat Crimson 1 on mercenary difficulty? Are you just supposed to use a broken plane like the PW-Mk.I which makes the fight too easy. I was trying to do a Chimera run the whole way though but could beat Crimson 1 on Kings. He felt way better balanced on Hard vs a mid tier plane. The rest of the campaign was fine on mercenary and if anything was a bit too easy.

The Deal is letting Cascadia become a mercenary haven. Crimson 1 strongly alludes to it.
>"Here we are, fighting for Cascadia's soul. That's the deal you made, right?"
The Deal is why Crimson 1 shows up at the end and drops Cordium missiles on Presidia, he's deliberately weakening Cascadia so that the mercenary state can't cause the world to descend further into anarchy and chaos. That's exactly what happens, by the way, with Cascadian Foreign Legions being sent to fight the Federation all across the world - and a significant amount of them are mercenaries.
>"You drove me to this...this death and destruction over the Federation."
Second of all, he has to kill (You), Monarch, as well as Kaiser, because he knows perfectly well that if you live, you and Kaiser will just go somewhere else and start the same shit all over again and put the world in danger. He can't just kill you, he has to erase you from history completely.¨
>"I will bury you so completely, the earth will turn over a thousand times before your body is dug up."
>>
>>734987038
Holy shit, that makes the final fight make a lot more sense. I read about the whole mercenary haven in the files after mission 21, but I didn't realize Crimson 1 knew that was the plan.

Like if you have a mission where you only need to wipe out 50% of a base in the time limit but you end up wiping out everything before time runs out, the comms treats you like an absolute madman for pulling that off. Make it so those moments are actually hard to achieve so the player wanking feels earned.

>>734991216
That's 80% of 4.

>to making you play as a complete fucking loser that gets no recognition for anything
Unironically because it's too much work for the average developer. They use ludo narrative dissonance as a shield to handwave everything that would realisticly impact the story or just flat out ignore/avoid events that would obviously have consequences so they don't have to address anything in the narrative or gameplay.
>>
The wanking feels embarrassing outside of when you're actually playing the game.

they should have a WSO waifu in every two seat plane, and if you pick a one seat, then the WSO should fly in another jet, so you can still have her dialogue even if a little different.
i find so stupid that on PW you have to lose all prez dialogues just because you wanna pick a good plane in late game, and there are no two seat one

The idea that we'll see significant returns of old characters always sounds stupid to me. Nagase returned in AC7 at the very end, to the space elevator, after apparently having destroyed a 2nd giant asteroid, Simon and his gf were mentioned to be Schroeder's colleagues, Harling returned only to die early in AC7.
Like the most you'll get is cameos. The sole exception is Mobius 1 returning in the VR mode of AC7 where he spanked Eruseans a few years before AC7 proper.
>>
>>735008435
Other few technicalities are bonus boss Mobius 1 in Ace Combat Zero and Torres being a voiceless captain in AC04
But exceedingly few characters have any reason to return in an active role anywhere. I guess you can do a lot of cameos since the war is back in Usea (and we're fighting for the FCU), but that's only if familiar characters like Pixy are still staying there for whatever reason.

>>
>>735008435
I get what you're saying but the difference is the AC3 cast aren't returning characters, their game takes place later in the timeline and this is the point in said timeline when they're all active and doing things
if PA has a long-term plan about getting to AC3 then they've gotta at least establish that Dision exists and is around otherwise he'll seem out of place when he shows up in AC3 and is described as having been a pretty big deal
>>
>>735009156
Western air doctrine is inimical to dogfighting, so yes, it's just missiles from extreme ranges. The US particularly is a fan of total air supremacy, which they'll achieve by leap frogging AA systems and aircraft deployments. Eastern european pilots, particularly russians, still train for it though.
>>
>>735009156
They're real, but absolutely nothing like videogames or hollywood movies. Literally the shortest allowable distance for missiles is like half a mile. Planes simply do not get so close that they could poke each other with sticks.
>>
>>735009156
They do train for dogfights but they're not really expected to happen
If a giant all out war breaks out one day you might see some happen just because chaos would mean there's a chance it'll occur.
In AC I think it's implied that they do have BVR capability but pilot skill is so mythical that missiles and stealth can be equalized.

Wanna get into Ace Combat, which ones to play in order? Are all of them required or are some safe to skip?
>>
>>735012186
If you want to see if the series is for you, just play 7 and see if you like it. If you want more, play 4, then 5, then Zero. If you still want more, look into 3, 6 and the first PSP game. If you yet still want more, play the other PSP game and the even earlier games.
>>
>>735012186
>required
4, 5, Zero then 7, the former three are piss easy to emulate
if you want a true entry point then play 7 first

>skippable but you should play them anyway
3 (JP fan TL only)
6 if you have a working Xbox 360 (emulation still has issues apparently)
X (very easy to emulate)
>>
>>735012186
Start with either 4 or 7, then play around
Avoid Joint Assault, Assault Horizon (Legacy is fine) and the Export version of Electrosphere
>>
>>735012186
The PS2 trilogy of AC4, AC5 and AC Zero is pretty much the best starting point and emulation issues have pretty much been solved at this point.
You can do AC7 first if you just want to do a single game.
You can then spin-off from there into AC6, AC3 with the Fan translation, ACX and Assault Horizon Legacy (which is just a badly named AC2 remake on the 3DS), or even try Sky Crawlers which is licensed game Project Aces made that plays out like a typical Ace Combat game.

>>
>>735012186
As someone who technically started with PW, I'd try AC7 to start with and then do AC04 -> AC5 > ACZ.
Continuity is not really all that important aside from AC5 -> ACZ, so it's up to how you wanna experience how the series has changed over time. AC7 is generally regarded as a "return to form" of sorts from the shitshow that was Assault Horizon, but it's pretty clear there was a lot of development hell behind its creation and I tend to regard the PS2 games as more "complete" in that sense and worth playing after.

Yeah people shit on him way too much too, mostly cause the base game nerfed every ally's damage to near 0. In the DLC he actually pulls weight and the only reason I'd say he isn't more liked outside of that (i've noticed he has definite female yumejoshis over the years) is cause you can't order him around like in AC5/Zero.

>mostly cause the base game nerfed every ally's damage to near 0
For that? Why would I want to sit back and let AI allies shoot anything down?
>>
>>735015360
Well it stops your allies from feeling like useful people. It also doesn't really take away from much, in the DLC Strider squadron feels like one of the most cohesive teams in any AC game and they don't just have more dialogue and dynamism than before but they can actually kill enemies (including the Alicorn itself apparently)
Granted, nowadays allied damage can be modded if you want them to pull weight or not.

Theoretically safe, but if even the smallest thing went wrong, his ass is slamming into concrete at 70+ knots. Zero room for error, so when he had to correct and angle a slight yaw, pitch, and roll... Hot damn.
