Like how Warrior used to build stacks of their inner beast stuff (the precursor to their current beast gauge) by using certain defensive cooldowns, so they could fuel their offense by using their defense. Or DRK being able to spend mana to buff their defensive CDs or to do more damage, so they had a deliberate choice. As well as abilities like Shield Swipe, original Reprisal, Low Blow, etc. being tied to whether you're getting hit or not.And that's not even getting into all of the abilities they've had removed, because that's something that has hit every job. But they used to have stuff like multiple combos, DoTs, debuffs to upkeep, alternative AoE attacks, etc.A lot of it is Squeenix being deathly afraid of one tank being better or worse at OT or MT, or being better or worse than the other tanks on specific fights (for reasons other than DPS). So they can't be appreciably different defensively or offensively, because then it's harder to balance and one job might suck ass on a specific fight. So they have basically the same CDs and really similar rotations.

All comes down to how many points you score.You also don't need to win the tournament to get the EX card necessarily, a win guarantees one of the prize cards but ranking in the top 20 (which is essentially guaranteed unless you fuck up the entire tournament) gives you a couple of Platinum packs that can drop them at a lower chance.
