Reactions commands aren't actually QTEs in KH2 because they're tangible mechanics with real frame data and movement properties.
they're some of the best context actions in video games. really well animated and programed.
for example even during this segment both Riku and Sora have active hurtboxes and both can take damage if the other fails to guard.

They are QTEs. Something like Skyscraper is an extremely obvious QTE where you literally see a button onscreen that you hit to continue the cutscene. I responded by saying you mash triangle. You found the one instance of mashing another button. You still have to mash triangle there.

those reaction commands are very rare. 90+% of reaction commands trigger tangible gameplay mechanics with offensive, defensive and mobility properties.
they're so well programed modders trigger them outside of reactions and they work just like regular actions with proper hitboxes ect.
compare that to the garbage in FF16 that are just literal cutscenes.

RCs were good. The proof is in how much people missed them when they were gone. As much as people can argue about them being too strong (some leave you too vulnerable in Crit, especially Level 1), they made the battles feel more memorable. KH3's strong options didn't have enough identity.

They're cool but 90% of the time to easy. Shit like Cyclone appear so often without needing to do anything to trigger it that its just a free attack. Some of the boss fights that require exact positioning or blocking in a certain way are better.

Honestly, the "definitive QTE" would have to be RE4's cutscene QTEs. The anon's trying to compare against those, where there's basically nothing going on except pressing the button to make the cutscene keep going, rather than a button you can press to change the gameplay in some way, which RE4 and KH2 both had some of. But yes I'd still agree that KH2 is full of QTEs.

it's not on a timer in 90% of cases.
it's just a context sensitive action like a grapple move. if it didn't have the button overlay, you wouldn't call it a QTE.

There are others like the Gamblers, Luxord, Samurais, Roxas and Mushroom 1
There are also those that while not failing, will not be optimal to mash, like certain limits deal more damage if you time your presses
That said, as much as i like KH2 and Reaction Commands, i do think having more of them across the board be based on timing rather than be able to mash them blindly.

I forget how Luxord and gamblers work and I didn't play Final Mix so I'll concede on that, but Samurai only uses the reaction command to initiate the duel stance.

Well yeah, you're right. But for the RC to come up you have to do certain things in combat, like guard their attacks and then the stance requires reaction speed and clean inputs. So while the RC once available is just a triangle input, i'd say how the RC comes up and the stance following the RC are still part of it.

On Critical mode it can actually feel pretty intense because Riku tends to go into the RC at very low health and a single missed input will cause you to lose the fight. Even worse if it's the Data version and you have to refight 2 bosses in a row. It's easy but still has tension. It also filters a lot of people on their first playthrough because they only mash triangle.
