where are the indie pvp multiplayer games?where's the indie tf2 clone?
>indie pvp multiplayer gamesyou mean fighting games?

S4 League was honestly pretty great when it first came out around 2007, but it declined fast as they monetized it. It still lasted quite a while, I think. Surprisingly, I just looked it up and apparently it's being brought back on EGS soon. But unfortunately it's bound to be far past saving.
mostly dead in the water considering that the most important thing for a fun multiplayer shooter is a lively playerbase - indies having no marketing funds means they peak at 2k active players and slowly decline to a couple dozen
>>734998581Any shooter that's not big like Overwatch or Apex ends up having too small of a community. Devs end up having to use bots to make them sorta playable. Strinova and Wild Assault comes to mind. These games might be fun if they had a bigger community, but they don't.
>>734998581the above posts raise good pointsthen you get monkey paw'd shit like... omega(?) strikers which pandered to e-celebs so hard that it had ingame emotes of the ecelebs reacting to shit (idk if it was their actual faces or an illustrated caricature)

>>734998581>indie tf2 cloneserver hosting is too expensive even if they implemented a server browser

>at least 24 max players>gameplay that's simple on the surface, but just complex enough for people to keep coming back>tons of loadout options>cosmetics to lure the whales>characters have funny and spammable voicelines>taunts which actually make fun of enemies instead of being Fortnite emotes>sprays>robust custom map supportMaking a game that can even try to stand on equal footing with TF2 is a tall order.
>>734998735It already got released by a company called valofe so they're trying to bring it to EGS but like you said its too late because of its monetization sadly
>>734998581There's Strinova, if you like anime shooters.
>>735000327And I just remembered code zin which is a spiritual successor to s4 league but its still in early access and dead
>>734998581networking requires a decent amount of work compared to most other genres and you need to attract a playerbase in order to keep your game from being a DNB so it's not worth trying and difficult to execute for most indie devs. There are a few though. Due Process looks fun.
I just want an anime girl shooter with the same gunplay, mechanics and handling as CoD / Battlefield.
>>734998581TF2 (as well as CS, Red Orchestra or DOTA) did start off as an independent mod, tho. There were various indie pvp vidya: Warsow, World of Padman, BAR RTS, Hedgewars, or the recent Foobar Zero - nobody plays these.
I'm making one, about 8 months in as 1MA.is it gonna be good? absolutely. eventually. might take another year or two.I will never resort to using bots though, even if that kills my game. Adding bots to a PvP game is simply disrespectful to the players, even more so when you try to present them as real players.
>>735000921Bots are good as a training tool, or if you desperately want to play the game if no servers are available. Just be sure to explicitly label them as bots, because the trend of filling real matches with fake players pisses me off too.
>>734998581>coding multiplayer game is harder then single player>have to deal with cheaters (costs money [anti-cheat] and time)>monthly server costs (peer2peer is free but people won't tolerate that for an FPS game)>need to keep producing content (modern audiences don't have the attention span to keep playing a game without pointless grinding)>market is flooded with bigger and "better" GaaS games people are already invested in and are all free to playIt's incredibly hard and requires a lot of time. Modern gamers also burn through content faster then before and demand endless content. Many are too young to have experienced "tacked on" multiplayer games from the 360/ps3 generation where you where lucky if your online game got even 1 decent content update. PvE would be slightly easier which is why you see a lot more of them.
>>735001203I'd rather someone make an anime-style shooter with a long-ass campaign mode and tacked on multiplayer lobbies with no expectation of added content but just for fun.

>>735005238Toon shading does not make something anime.
>>734998581>indie tf2We made that 30 years ago lil bro, TF2 is a demake of it.
