Why does the game seem to purposefully fuck you over with card draw? The amount of times I draw not one single block card of any kind, not even the worst lowest amount of block possible, on turns when the enemy is doing 20+ damage is ridiculous. Or you draw like 2 debuffs cards but no attack cards; even if you play a draw card you don't draw anything good or useful. Then next turn all you draw is attack cards.

It genuinely doesn't make me want to play the game when you are forced to (at worst) lose.

The nature of the game is that you can't expect to get lucky all the time, and you don't need to if you build a well-rounded character with good sustain, defenses, offenses and card draw. No, but they can happen, and I doubt they will get rid of them. They're fun, as long as you're the one doing it. But in Multiplayer you have to just play your first turn then wait for the infinite guy to play his whole deck 8 times until the boss dies.

In the current state of the game, infinites are too easy to come by. It's the optimal way to play Ironclad and pretty much the optimal way to play most of the characters. You will often fall into either infinite, pseudo-infinite, or decks that could go infinite but don't need to. I expect these problems to be addressed in later patches.
If all you want to do is kick it in multiplayer with some friends then it's well worth the $25, but if you want to play a balanced masterpiece then just play the first one

One of the issues is that infinites rarely require cards that are bad on their own, they largely involve cards that you would want to pick up on a regular non-infinite build, at which point, it's silly not to play the infinite because you already have access to it. That's also a consequence of the very poor balance right now, there are way too many cards with no effective use scenario and they're not effective because encounter design is bad and strongly favors certain strategies over others. StS2 has a long fucking way to go

i can say that kill the stairs two feels way easier than obliterate the skycraper one, but i also have X hours of experience of how to gauge which card i need, meanwhile some of my friends who didnt play the first game are yet to win a single run...

and now the question: why regent feels so... inconsistent? like you can have turns where you only draw start generations and do nothing and then you draw only payload cards and dont have stars to play them.

i am yet to lose a single game, but my last run with regent was a horrible slog, super weak to bad draws.

what is the meta with regent? pick all block cards and stall until your sword one shots the enemy? or do you go full on stars and hope you draw them in correct order? Regent has one of the most broken op cards in the game, like

It doesn't 'seem' to do anything, it's random. If you flood your deck with too many cards without any means of getting to the cards you want then that's your fault. You're not forced into any kind of situation, the issue is that you didn't try and make a plan for your deck.

For me right now the game is too easy, I can complete runs in <30 minutes and the ascension levels don't feel like much of a difference to for me. The cards are way overtuned but I guess that's the starting point to refine through balancing.

It has good synergy with Cloak and Dagger, which has good synergy with Dexterity shacking and other Shiv stuff. That's not very exciting by itself, but Shivs in this capacity can also be decent discard fodder, and you get one a turn that does pretty good damage too, so even if you don't have a Shiv build there's other prospects. It's not that great admittedly.

I pulled off a 438 sword on A1 but ever since then it's been stars. I don't know about the meta but as long as you find good gen (start with Glow, Cache, you go stratospheric if you get any star relic or Throne card as a boss reward), you're gonna get there. Always take reflect, always take decisions. Play decisions into reflect and you solve every bad turn in the game right now.

Poison is currently fundamentally flawed for two interrelated reasons
1.) The energy economy of actually applying poison is awful
2.) A mechanic that requires that you stall just makes you more vulnerable to getting a bad hand and eating 50% of your HP from a single attack, also all enemies incrementally buff / debuff so stalling is even worse

I'm not a snakebite defender but I think it gets a worse rap than it deserves. It needs to be evaluated within the context of the silent kit. Having retain is important because it means it isn't getting shuffled meaning you're drawing good cards more often. Pounce lets you play it for free, hand trick lets you imbue it with sly, and its an extra hit for fletchettes, and because it has retain it will almost always be ready to synergize with those cards when you want it to. Again I'm not saying it's S tier or its run defining but there's value to it if you have the means of using it well. Just looking at it as 2 mana for 7 poison is a little reductive

I've beaten A10 with Silent. I'm pushing A6 with Regent and I'm currently grinding Necro and Defect. Don't care much about Clad.
Here's some thoughts.
The statue and Byrdonis from act one need to be toned the fuck down. All elites feel well designed with a unique gimmick except for these two and maybe Terror Eel. They're boring damage races that you can't really circumvent. Phrog, Gardeners and Colony have fine mechanics and breathing room. Terror Eel alternates between his big hits and weak multi hits which you can easily block, but Statue and Byrdonis don't let up.
The statue's first attack should deal less damage. Byrdonis should start with lower damage or or scale much slower. The thing is, if you don't find weak or strong block early, the statue will fuck you up and Byrd will always chip away a good chunk of health. It's bullshit.
Silent is absolutely broken. Sly allows you to do so much it's insane. She will get hit with the nerf hammer soon.
Regent is the worst character, and also my favorite. The only viable build is stars, because forge is complete ass and he doesn't have the energy manipulation needed for card creation. Really sucks that the minions are nothing more than deck thinning either. His deck manipulation is heavily underused.
The full art boss reward cards are amazing, but some are so bad they don't even work as a "Tiny house bail out" if you don't like the other options, and some will just never get played because they're boss rewards. Clad's Break is retarded because Bash is bad. Corruption is dead because it's paired against two other ancient's boons. Though I miss sitting behind 10 forst orbs, I'm fine with Biased cog getting left behind, etc. Really think they should add an event that lets you fight some strong enemies like the double orb walker or Nob+Slaver from StS1 so you can get these as well, or make them a 1 in one 100 card drop.
Can't wait for the balance changes.

Act 2 elites absolutely need teeth though. Right now they’re just slightly angrier hallway fights.

Even if you buffed act 1 elites it wouldn't matter because the infinite forcers would just dodge elites and remove cards.

i didn't pay StS1 and I'm relatively new to the genre, but even I can tell that draw is king. The most fatal thing is misaligned turns (drawing nothing but block on an attack turn, drawing nothing but attack on a block turn), and being able to pivot out of one is vital. Regent feels inconsistent because it isn't as easy for him to do this from the get-go.

This was true in sts1 but currently in sts2 it's event rooms second and elites avoid if possible on floor 1/2 unless you already have your deck figured out
This is due to events having been buffed in general while the elite relic pool has been massively nerfed so most of the time you are just trading a good chunk of your health for a disappointment and a chance to get a good card drop

I've been playing since release but it's my first time checking out the thread, what's the consensus?
I love playing Necro. How do I get past stuff like early Bygone effigy on A10? Feels as bad as early Laga for Silent in STS. I only beat A10 once.
Picrel: my A9 victory where I let the game play itself using the powers that do doom every turn and damage for every status applied. Deathbringer might be my favorite card. The art for Grave Warden is so cool I started playing Necro because of it.

Forge and colorless are good though. Like with colorless all the transform cards are really powerful. Charge is insane you can transform 2 dead cards in your deck. The other low cost one and guard can change your hand too so you can get ride of curses or strikes. With forge you just take the passive power and hold onto it for a big hit. If you go all in on forge it’s bad but there are good forge cards.

And then just good StS principles. Build raw power before elites, build long term scaling before bosses, try to find decent aoe before Act 2, etc. Just believe in the damn stars. Most cards that trigger off gaining/spending stars do so for EACH STAR gained, which is absolutely fucking broken and will be tuned down.

My last run I got Akebeko and Radiate and shat out something like 14x10 damage to all enemies on turn one without even trying. Regent's strong.

Prioritize cards that either make energy or draw more cards. Bloodletting, Expect a Fight, Forgotten Ritual for energy, Pommel Strike, Battle Trance, Burning Pact, and even Spite (with Bloodletting) for draw. Offering is both and thereby god tier. Aside from that, just take powerful attacks and if you can angle into exhaust that's ideal (starting with enabler cards like True Grit or Second Wind) but not necessary
