>Spend millions getting all the biggest streamers to play Marathon today
>Instead of the player count shooting up, it actually went down
There is nothing that can save this trash heap is there?

I'm guessing sub 40k on Monday.
>>
The game only needs 20k to stay alive, look at The Finals.
>>

why are they insisting on wasting money on streamers? they did this last weekend too for no results. that money would be better put in the game dev

Delusional.
Hunt was put on EoS by crytek for not being profitable enough and it only had 30 Devs maintaing it with a budget not even a 10th of marathon AND it made 120million dollars in raw profits.
This literally matters because bungie and Sony are both retarded. If it wasn't a shitty live service the game would be absolutely fine.

Live service is cancer to video games. Especially if it isn't free to play. Games like marathon only exist to extract money from retards for as long as they can manage to. Minimally viable product games.
Bungie is so arrogant they even charge $40 for their bare bones dopamine treadmill.
Bungie has been shit for years, having no regard for players as paying customers.

This game deserves to fail and every other AAA live service needs to die and bankrupt the companies making them.

They should've spent less than that on getting in features that would actually make this game a good product.
1. PVE mode or solo for priority contracts (so a solo PvE mission).
2. Bullet drop, windage (works with weather quite nicely).
3. Heat/energy dissipation making rain and fog reduce energy weapon effectiveness.
4. Toggle walk/run.
5. Being able to equip items from vault overflow, not just move them to backpack.
6. More ticks and mutated ticks.

Instead they went after the most rotten fruit of the tree. Bungie are retards. Have a functional good product first, then do marketing escapades.

It's weird because the earlier trailer seems to imply that it was supposed to have a single player campaign about two people trying to find each other.

All great suggestions. Still a bit iffy on PvE, they shouldn't turn this into Destiny and only implement PvE content if it's actually GOOD, but more USEC enemies are desperately needed.
Also Rook contracts, please

Destiny was always trying to be a pseudo MMO fps.
Marathon was a single player FPS made decades ago by the team who went on to make Halo, brought back as an extraction shooter for Sony by the team who made Destiny 2's worst updates.

It's an aesthetically revolting game, looks extremely boring in motion, empty, pointless maps.

PvE is a tricky pony. As someone suggested it to me, they could just make it PvE for story missions (they are called priiority contracts), allowing players to familiarise with content and get some training wheels on. As for UESC - going solo against them can be easy, yet as they increase in command rank, they become a menace where if you do something reckless you will get dabbed on by them. So it balances out. Even if trio could do such missions in co-op, they still have a risk from bots because purple shields and above are a tricky and will own your entire team if you do things recklessly.
I mean, when you start the game, you spawn initially as Destroyer and into a map with no players and get to fight a lot of UESC. So how difficult can it be to enable that for story missions?

Bungie fumbled this badly. I have not played Destony (either of them) so i cannot say anything about them, except i keep hearing and reading that they ruined D2 quite badly. I recall visiting D2 general thread and reading about nerfs to weapons and such and how some were no longer otainable and thought to myself "yeah, i am not touching this game".

Shame about Marathon, could've been a nice game.
>>
>>735016834

>>
>>735019213
nah, it couldn't, marathon is doing all the garbage the community balked at them doing in destiny2, its bungies dream game where they do minimal work and retards grind endlessly the same few missions to get the same gear over and over.
I cant understand the mental illness that makes someone play shit like this its sysiphus rock simulator.
it cant word in pve/with pve solo missions because then what playerbase they have will actually finish the contracts and stop playing, also they only did 4 fucking tiny maps.

>>735019615

>>735014924
The gaming industry at large is in a death spiral. Games constantly cost more to make, take longer to come out, require more and more powerful hardware and disk space while looking worse and having less content, games in each genre are becoming more derivative and samey, artistic visions more indistinct and streamlined, writing across genres and studios is heading towards the ironic, insincere, modern day politics-infested millenial slop singularity, the industry is affected by brain drain in a big way, massive studios are completely controlled by shareholders, using the empty husks of has-been studios to shart out nostalgia-baiting endless sequels, prequels and spin-offs... the list goes on. The industry needs a good, solid crash at the entire AAA level, just to reset to a level of sanity again.

Rooting for these project that cost hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars to go down in flames is the natural response. Maybe if enough of them fail in big enough ways, the rest of the industry will follow.

Why do leftists go out of their way to support anti-consumer corporate practices?
>>
>>735020089
If you like games why do you want the game industry to fail? Then you'd get no more games! I don't get it.
>>
>>735020164
Because they're retarded. Leftists are best compared to slavering animals, a churning horde that will turn on its own like that, mercilessly devouring any that show even the slightest hint of no longer blindly following the horde-think. As such, leftists are constantly fucking terrified of being the next one to be ripped apart by the ones who they now call allies and friends, and will thus mindlessly defend anything and everything that smells of leftism, just to be on the safe side. Using this, a corporation can trivially turn leftists into their private internet defense force, just by injecting woke bullshit, faggotry, and troonism into their game. It's a free pass to your terminally online interference squad.
>>
>>735019641
>its bungies dream game
Like Todd's starfield?
>I cant understand the mental illness that makes someone play shit like this its sysiphus rock simulator
Its not. It requires hedging risk/reward, and YOU DO make a lot of solid progress. The issue is that PvP and PvE get in each other's way, and the solution is to either separate them, or implement changes to balance both elements out, like >>735017992 points 2, 3, 4 and then make thermals being easily spoofed by metal heating up on the sun, not detecting runners unless they are building up heat or are overheated, rain and fog spoofing thermal signatures, inverse square law applicable to the range of signature detection, so that no sniping with thermals across the entire map in broad daylight, or even night. They also need to make changes to signal jammer, which is far better at stealth than anything else by making it simply do what name says - make player invisible to TAD and Recon's pulse (basically masks radar signature), Thief's x-ray visor and drone.

They need also to increase incentives for vE content, because right now PK is far too rewarding, and you can grind mad levels when you are a pre-made trio wiping the lobby time and time again. So far the game is a shitshow when it comes to PvP, forget about vE.
And there is also an issue with cheaters, because Battle Eye has been around for ages (atleast since 2018). Conan Exiles and Tarkov use it and both are plagued by cheaters, and apparently it is slowly becoming an issue with Marathon too (i had atleast two such encounters).
The only way for them to ensure the game is relatively fair and/or has longevity is to either get a better anti-cheat, or just go PvE. Tau Ceti IV is a big planet, offers plenty of places for maps and such (think tick nest and tick queen, fungus infestation cleanup, aliens, survival in hazardous zone while trying to repair vital equipment, etc).

AAA Boomers only know how to solve problems by throwing money at it because that's all they have, and they seem to have an endless supply of it as well. Their brains are pea sized and dopamine fried from watching green line go up and down or number on a chart they are simply incapable of creating anything that isn't inoffensive repetitive digital goyslop. They have a shallow understanding of the market as shown by how much they pay streamers to play their games yet the fail to understand people in fact watch the streamers because they couldn't be bothered to try it themselves.

PvPvE games have never worked, and I don't understand why studios still believe they'll be the ones to crack the code. You simply can't place two diametrically opposed player types in the same game and expect it to work out. Every single one of these games, without fail, turns into premade PvP stacks preying on PvE players. Because every time, without fail, it's the most efficient way to make progress in the game. And the reason it's efficient is because PvE players will always serve as a bottleneck for rewards - they do the work of traversing the map, interacting with PvE elements, collecting shit, and all PvP Timmy and friends need to do is wait at the point all PvE players need to pass, gank them, and grab their shit at a fraction of time and effort expended. This goes on for a while, and then PvE players inevitably leave because they realize the futility.

It doesn't work. Stop fucking trying to make it work.

>>735008454
Unironically this. Streaming is important for shooters in general but it’s HUGE for extraction shooters especially. The games that catch fire in the extraction space aren’t just fun to play; they’re also fun to watch on stream. It’s why Arc exploded: it’s a hoot to watch others play it and then you want to try it too. The issue with Marathon is that it SUCKS to watch others play which is why they’re having to pay streamers to even fuck with it. Burnt peanut is one of the hottest streamer going right now; routinely getting 80,000 plus viewers per livestream on YouTube. He maxed out at less than 40000 while playing marathon yesterday. People just don’t want to watch this game which means they’re not gonna want to play it.

That's right, I can remember all those media campaigns blaming leftist players for destroying games just because they didn't agree with right-wing political content pointlessly injected into them, the endless deflection perpetrated by righties blaming the game's failure not on its lack of quality and overdone focus on politics, but rather just lefties being hateful bigots, and the hordes of frothing right-wing trannies doing their best to cancel anyone criticizing studios and games, because how dare you spread your hate speech about this game and its valiant... whatever the right wing equivalent of a faggot or tranny is, you get the point, sarcastic analogy ends here.

Marketing has some of the most power in these companies, anon.
Marketing has the most weight when it comes to new product ideas(they're also in part the reason we get so much generic bland "appeal to everyone" slop), marketing gets the majority of the budget, marketing gets the ability to kill your project mid-development, marketing doesn't even take the fall when the product fails (even when it was as a result of them failing to advertise it)
