I'm getting really close to just quitting competitive video games in general. Between the lag and the vitriolic autism, I think I would just rather play checkers or go outside. I love playing starcraft 1, and I learned korean specifically to play it, but I just can't stand the schizos that play it. I am talking people autistically messaging my offline account for MONTHS because of a perceived slight, then when they match me on a different anonymous account they can sniff out that it's me by the playstyle and the harassment begins anew. Then people that act high and mighty when they win, then rage like cringy babies invariably when they lose. It's just so so sad. And then the lag is just infuriating because I'm not playing in Seoul. I love the game but god DAMN do I think it adversely affects my health sometimes.

The truth is, the devs don't care if you get better or enjoy yourself, you are locked in there to act as a treadmill for people to spend more time to buy more cosmetics. Playing the game is irrelevant so long as the whales aren't interrupted. Break the surface of the water, and you will eat a ban. Griefing, if you are subtle, doesn't get you banned. Calling someone out on griefing will get you banned. With this realization the game became griefing as much as possible without eating a ban to me, and I fell in love with the peruvians. Knowingly or unknowingly, they are masters of doing it. Valve is the true enemy in dota, not the south americans

Accumulated something like 20,000+ hours and was 99th percentile sometimes 99.9th percentile in any single shooter I touched with a matchmaking system. Started out competing in CSGO + TF2 then Dirty Bomb then Overwatch then they just started dropping those games every year it felt like. By the time 2020 flies by, I pretty much stop playing and practicing for something like 2 years and when I return, the amount of disdain and hatred I receive makes me step back and really think about my hobbies. Counterstrike 2. I paid for csgo and am forced to play the dogshit cs2. Technically my hours are in csgo, but again, csgo (which i paid for) was removed and replaced with countershit 2, which is so bad, I just quit cs altogether. Subtick, cs2 net code, and lag compensation have been a complete disaster for humanity. All my friends quit dogshit 2 as well.
I'm the third degree removed friend of an autist who will sit in discord alone, for 16 hours a day, and literally just type out diablo 2 and POE gametheory. The guy doesn't have a computer for some reason, but he will just sit there, watch streams, watch youtube, and type out what he thinks. Sometimes he will come into my friend's D2 stream and just type at him for hours, commanding him to test this or that. I don't understand why someone like that hasn't just killed himself yet, he must be so fucking profoundly unhappy. Truly alien.

It has the MOBA attribute of feeling good when you're winning but not at any other point, coupled with the game being very unbalanced and all the most powerful options on both sides being some of the least fun strategies to play against, so if you play well you will inevitably have less fun over time due to matchmaking. Fortunately I'm about 2.5 years clean so far
