I'm playing MGS3 for the first time
what do these options do?

Idk. I think the crt bulb is dying and I don't know how to compensate for that in the settings. it looks worse in the picture though.
does the MGS2 scene supersede a different scene? are the other bonuses just gameplay related items?

If you've played MGS2, pick the MGS2 option.
Gives you a useful item too, iirc, although it's been decades since I've played it.

Did they ever have extra options for fans of the 2D Metal Gear games in the JP version? I know at the time Europe was the only region to get the original Metal Gear on its home system (the Famicom/NES and DOS ports are hot garbage) and MG2 straight up didn’t leave Japan until it was released as part of MGS3 Subsistence
