I am desperate for stealthShould I try MGS V or Aragami? Also stealth general
>>735017135 If you want pure, sweaty-palms “don’t get seen once” stealth, Aragami is basically a puzzle game where you’re the shadow. It’s simple but scratches that Tenchu itch hard. Mess up and you’re paste.MGS V is the better *game* though. The systems are insane. You can no-alert ghost entire bases at noon with nothing but a tranq pistol and a box. The AI adapts, the sandbox is huge, and you get that dopamine hit from extracting half the map. Downside is it’s so open-ended you can trivialize stealth if you start cheesing gadgets. If you want tight, focused stealth: Aragami. If you want 200 hours of “okay but what if I infiltrate from the north during a sandstorm with a stun shotgun”: MGS V.Also play Chaos Theory if you somehow haven’t. That’s still king.
>>735017135Chaos Theory online. It's so much more satisfying to bamboozle real people.
>>735017135There's not much to play as I've told you outside what i put in that image in the last thread you made, if it was you who i spoke to that is. In regards to asking for hardcore stealth. That's hard to come by. If you've played every Splinter Cell, Every Thief game, Every Metal Gear Solid, Every Hitman, Every Sniper Elite, Every Tenchu, Commandos or Dishonored then you can scroll this image for what you missed in the more mixed reception games at times. However i will include a pastebin of upcoming games. The image has been updated to include a few more obscure games.https://pastebin.com/1vuVg3D8
>>735017249Absolutely played all the Splinter Cells up through Double Agent back in the day, the shock round was pure KINOWas really enjoying the huge open sandbox levels in the new Styx until I hit a gamebreaking bug and I'm basically at the mercy of the devs to patch before I can progress any furtherI'll probably end up playing both Aragami and MGS V but maybe I'll start today with MGS V as I've never played a MGS game before (for some reason apparently when I was a kid I thought it was a PS exclusive franchise and I was an xbox gamer, and besides an old DOS/Win 95 pc I didn't build my own system until I was like 30)
Also apparently Ghost Recon Breakpoint with Spartan Mod is MGSV lite. That's the only thing i potentially missed in inclusion on that list. Something to consider.
>>735017135Aragami is a puzzle games While MGS5 is stealth action game that's as difficult as you make it
>>735017434Discord alone nowadays will ruin this game's proximity voice comm
>>735017135MGS5 is just a worse version of MGS games that came out before it. I would recommend just play those and stop before getting to 5.Aragami is unique and still well-made enough that someone into stealth games will enjoy it.
>>735018309Discord is the only reason this game is alive and thriving at all. Losing prox. chat sucks but it's better than nothing.
>>735017842>Sniper EliteI played a couple but from what I remember the enemy AI fucking pissed me off because as soon as I'd kill anyone it felt like the whole screen immediately aggroed and new exactly where I wasMaybe it's gotten better since then
>>735017135I suggest the styx games. Decently solid stealth games
There may have also been one small oversight i left out in that list too. But i think this game called The Occupation looked too walking simish. Although A Plague Tale is already walking a fine line in that regard too. Supposedly this one was influenced by Thief, yet it seems to be artificial in that influence. From my observations i think the walking sim part takes precedent too much and it's not a proper immersive sim like it makes out to be. It might not be Gone Home tier, but it also might not be far off. Your call on this one. I'm skeptical of it. But that's the only potential anomaly i missed. I'd say it would be safe to skip it. I haven't played GR Wildlands enough either to comment on whether people say these modern GR titles are good stealth games. Because if it plays anything like Far Cry then it would be by default not a good stealth game.
>>735017842I've been waiting on Gloomwood for so long, bros, it looks so fucking good. The wait for it to leave early access is killing me, but at least it's still getting updates.
>>735017842Holy shit, he will die of an UNC Slop overdose
Replaying Blacklist for the first time in a while. I like the number of customization options available for equipment. So many alternate weapons and alternate fire modes or ammo options.
We're in luck boyz they patched the new Styx and I'm no longer hard locked out of progressionI did pick up Thief Simulator on sale a week or so ago and will get around to Aragami and MGS at some point but for now we continue stealthing it up in the huge open worlds of Blades of GreedNot winning GOTY by any stretch and it's got problems but the freedom to stealth how you want and plan and execute all sorts of different strategies to get the job done is fun as shit
>>735017981Three big tips for MGS51. Bionic Arm enhancements are basically permanent upgrades so long as you're playing as Snake. If you play as one of your soldiers, if the soldier has a gameplay relevant skill, it'll be a better version of one of those upgrades2. Do all Legendary Gunsmith side ops ASAP, as they unlock the ability to customize guns. This really helps you save on deployment costs by putting a silencer on a rank 1 gun for example3. Don't bother farming shit until you unlock the Fulton Ballista on the D-Walker. It lets you extract anything for free. You probably won't unlock it until after you beat the game
Solo Ghost Recon Breakpoint and turn off all minimap and enemy indicatorsCyberpunk with increased stealth difficulty mods, again turning off all enemy indicatorsMost stealth game AI is too stupid, you always have a safe way to reset them. I recommend multiplayer games with stealth elements like Tarkov
>>735017135Hear me out, Outlast Trials. Specially the PvP invasion mode. Had lots of fun roleplaying as a covert agent hiding from enemy players (almost never been seeing) and distracting enemy NPCs towards enemy players so they get killed by them.
>>735022175>Cyberpunkhave they made any changes to the combat?i remember refunding it cause the combat felt pretty shitty when I tried it the first time
>>735017434Multiplayer isn't even really stealth though, the spies are more like crazy ninjas that flip around and kill you because that's the 'meta'.
>>735025489Depends on the map, really. You still need to be stealthy. Alarms, not making sound, standing where they can't see you, ambushing, all valid stealth mechanics. But yeah, 100% ghosting is very unlikely.
>>735025582I gotta say, I really fucking miss that game though. Super fun and super unique.
>>735025660https://sc-panel.com/Just get in.
Is Hitman Absolution really that bad bros?
>>735024867Not really, you need mods and self limitation to make it remotely interesting even on the highest difficulty. The stealth in the base game is especially OP and the AI is still dumb as bricks. There was a mod released recently that finally alerts AI when you open a door next to them, 5 years after release.
>>735017135Aragami looks cool, never played it. I have played a little of Ereban and had fun with it.
Why are stealth /v/ros the least chatty amongst /v/ posters? Are we the only ones on the board who actually play fucking video games?
>>735017842Buddy, you're literally scraping the bottom of the barrel with a lot of those titles that are "spy" games if you absolutely stretch the definition
>>735025710Depends. What do you value about Hitman, the contract killer fantasy or the accident playground? The mission design is dogshit either way.
>>735017135>can kill people at will and not have some stupid rating fuck you over One of the many reasons I love splinter cell
>>735029846>giving away your position
>>735017842Why does Deus Ex and Perfect Dark not make the cut?
I've had it in my mind to try and make a stealth game in the near future of the next few years if time allows. Out of curiosity what does /v/ like in a stealth game, and what aspects do you dislike?
>huge open levels like Styx Blades of Greed>modern espionage/counter terrorism plot focused on the shit going down in the middle east>the war is an American false flag and the objective is to dismantle Israel and Assassinate their Prime Minister>You play as Sam Fisher and have free reign to complete objectives and take out different targets at your discretion however you want>the enemy AI, the story, everything plays differently depending on your playstyle, how you complete objectives, the order in which you complete objectives, etc.>for example if bodies are discovered or you are found frequently, the guard presence is increased, guards are equipped with larger arsenal, if you're a stealthyboi and complete high profile objectives before taking out surveillance systems or destroying evidence of your presence guards start to use night vision or thermal optics and traps to detect your presence>whole game developed from the ground up with actual path tracing and not just some extra shadow setting thrown in for spectacleI would literally cum if someone could pull this off
>>735030746Atmosphere + feeling like you're a badass.https://youtu.be/itBLU_0EyUc?t=3011
>>735030746I really like when you use enemy ai in someway, like i could attach bombs on knocked out guys in mgs 5 then wake em up and use them to kill or knock out other guys even if it's silly
>>735030746Stealth games are basically all about level design. A good stealth game needs to force you to go within enemy sightlines to complete your objective in order for there to be actual challengeWhatever you do, DO NOT fall into the trap of making big sandbox levels. Inevitably people will find exploits which allow them to trivialize the entire mission. Keep things linear. You can have an alternate route, but again, don't make it the easy baby route, if anything make it even harder but people better stuff for doing it successfully. Also don't penalize people for using lethal weapons, unless it's something like "guards react more aggressively if they find a dead body vs a sleeping one"
>>735030746>>735031215To add to this, not just stuff for you to interact with but how the world interacts and reacts to/with you.
>>735030746My biggest pet peeve with stealth games is the act of player waiting for things to reset. For example, waiting to figure out a predetermined AI path through observation, waiting for AI to return to neutral from alerted state.Stealth is not fun if you can wait things out safely. AI needs to be totally dynamic and unpredictable. Stealth doesn't have to be about figuring out an optimal path through replaying a level and never being seen, but rather adapting on the go, purposefully misdirecting enemies as you move through a level. Also, never ever include minimap or X ray.
>>735017842>Batman BeginsThis game is so assthe Arkham games is tenfold better. You got more gadgets, enemy variety, and the environment does actually play a rolehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOOOcE2EWu0
>>735030746I like games that have all the trimmings of an imsim (the game lays out a set of rules by which it operates and anything that you can do within that set of parameters is fair game) but with difficulty scaled to 11 so you can't just bail yourself out with combat if you fuck upHard disagree on level design, I think stealth games that are basically puzzle games where there is one solution are boring. If I can conceptualize a way to complete my objective and it plays by the rules then I should be able to do itIt's harder to design good levels that achieve that kind of gameplay but it's more fun and makes you feel like a badass rather than solving the puzzle of watching for AI pathing and then just knowing when to move to remain undetectedEnemies should feel alive and not just like another object in the game world
>>735031605>I think stealth games that are basically puzzle games where there is one solution are boringThis isn't what I was talking about, if anything I was saying to do the opposite of that. Too many stealth games are just "find the route that has no security on it." I was saying "don't make a route with no security, force the player to have squeeze by really tight sightlines"
>>735030746Have options to hide in plain sight, don't just let it be whether you're standing in the light or not.
>>735032017Woops forgot pic.
I would like a game where a team of covert operators use stealth to actively hunt the player
>>735017434>me whispering the most heinous things in the merc's ear before snapping his neck
Never played a Splinter Cell game before, how should I play the first 3?Emulate a console version or go for the PC versions?
>>735031336Here's a feature I'd like for something like a Splinter Cell game>pre mission planning phase>mission area has already been cased>general guard paths are mapped>a general idea of "shift changes">suspected security rooms / quick reaction force barracksAnd of course, all that goes out the window if you're spotted or guards grow suspicious(I.E. locked door is now unlocked, window left open, puddles of water where water shouldn't be)
>>735033480>Ubisoft>PC
>>735033480They're regularly on sale on PC for like $5 or less.
>>735017434Is that online? It's funny how the NPC moved like a real player there for a second. Interesting.
Comfy/Immersive 100% playthrough of Blood Money to fall asleep to. https://youtu.be/vCRjaONyWuY?is=AKOwu887mKZtRsGZ
>>735033540Planning and casing should definitely be mandatory, and I'd like to restrict it to varying degrees of certainty, e.g. mapping the outside of a facility is 100% accurate, whereas inside is less and less accurate, where the player will have to take calculated risks and rely on very general and imprecise information, without a map. As a stealth player I want to be taking unknown risks when I move through a level, using my brain and common sense, rather than timing pathing that I've already figured out.
>>735031252>Whatever you do, DO NOT fall into the trap of making big sandbox levels. Inevitably people will find exploits which allow them to trivialize the entire mission. >Keep things linearYou are an immense retard.
>>735033628Online. That character that was grabbed was a player, too. There's no NPCs in this game's online.
>>735034191The problem is that kind of thing is incompatible with the kind of arcadey scoring systems most stealth games want to have>>735034508You're either a casual or a speedrunner faggot
>>735034753Thanks. Was thoroughly impressed by what I otherwise thought was a god-like AI implementation kek
>>735034191What about finding maps, or you yourself making one?
>>735022175>Most stealth game AI is too stupid, you always have a safe way to reset themthat's not really a problem, realism is bad for game design
>>735030238Deus Ex games on the hardest difficulty were amazing for me.
>>735035112Don't leave us hanging. Tell us more.
>>735034957It would be cool to have a sub objective to locate a map within the facility, or buy it from some source, who might also be double agent and sell a purposefully misleading map, that you will have to compare with what you see within the actual level. And of course making your own mapping as you go along, planning a route to even just leave the way you come in, would be really cool. I just want to be fucked with as much as possible to always be muddying my decision making.
Intravenous 2 is really fucking good. I just wish it was 3D, I have a really hard time getting immersed with this kind of 2D graphics. It's still ok but man it would have been one of my favorite games if it was a full 3D game.Still waiting for IV3, the dev is cooking.
>>735034864Nah, you're just an immense retard>People who will put dozens or maybe hundreds of hours into a game will eventually figure an optimal path>So just make the levels linearYou are so fucking stupid that I have to constantly remind you of how fucking stupid you are. If you want a shitty hallway stealth game go play Blacklist.
>>735035259Absolute kino
>>735035550bullshit, have you even played trash like Dartmoor in Hitman 3 where there's barely any enemies and you can just go straight to the top without a disguise with no issue? Hundreds of hours my ass, I literally figured it out on my first fucking run. That is what you want, toddler tier challenges to give you a participation award. I'm here for actual gameplay
RTT stealth is the only kind of stealth games I can enjoy.
>>735017135>MGS VGround Zeroes.
>>735035840so add more enemies?fucking kekopen levels with several paths that you can make use of using different gameplay elements and degrees of verticality don't mean any of those paths have to be any less difficult or enemy dense, they just have to give you different ways to complete the mission (hacking doors, pickpocketing a key, finding an attic entrance to bypass the door, etc.)
>>735017434the movement looks so bad. The best multiplayer experience was co op campaign
>>735034191Thief the Dark Project does the whole "incomplete map" thing as early as the 2nd mission. In fact, many mansions where you have to go to an uncivilised area you either get an old outdated map or Garret tries his best to to just make sense of the general area. I'm too lazy to reinstall the game for a hi-res screenshot, but this the map for a large, sprawling, vertical underground cave/crypt level.
>>735027443Aragami sucks. It's so clunky it feels like you play with QTEs.
>>735035840>One game did something badly>This means that every game ever will repeat the same mistakeSeems like I need to remind you again that you are stupid. You are stupid.
>>735036127>Thief the Dark ProjectHow do I get this game, is it the same as Thief Gold on GOG
>>735017135>MGS Vchapter 1 is fun don't bother with the open world it's one of the worst
>>735036084Sure, but I don't think we're ever going to get that, least of all from some rando indie dev on /v/ who probably doesn't have the time, resources, or ability to create a level like that, Not to mention there's hardly a point. Stealth games aren't RPGs. They don't need multiple approaches and having them doesn't inherently make the game better
>>735036127Maps got better as the games went on funnily enough. I have it installed and can get a map if you want.>>735036284Yes it is>>735036173>Aragami sucksWell that's unfortunate, isn't it co-op too?
>>735036284Yes. Thief 1/2 are the good ones, the GoG versions comes patched, so you can play them out of the box. Thief Deadly Shadows is still decent, but it's more consolised, so it kind of plays like a first-person Splinter Cell. Thief (2014) is ass with zero redeeming values.>>735036393Show him the map from the mission where you first encounter Craymen, I forgot what's it called.
mgs 5 is fun when you don't use stun gun or silenced pistol and you have to go close to guards to deal with them instead of playing popamole
I would like souls-like games/Nioh to stop putting shallow stealth elements in action games. Some of us are OG gangster masters of stealth and all that does is decrease the amount of gameplay per enemy camp. You should be allowed to stealth kill one enemy and then that's it, whole camp attacks you or becomes non-assassinate-able

>>735037974I would feel the same but TES combat is so bad that skipping it is usually for the best
>>735037974Stealth game wise?I replayed CT after years in December. It was a lot more linear than I remembered it being, plus the AI is fucking bullshit sometimes. Right now, I'm just playing an Tenchu Z on 360 emulation. It's honestly amazing how japan just collective designed to stop making ninja stealth games. I'm honestly so desperate for more that I'm going to buy AC Shadows, when it's on sale for like $10 in a couple of years.
>>735038650>all those grammatical errorsShesh, bed time I guess
>>735017434>>735034753How are you playing online?
>>735038650>Tenchu ZThis game got LAMBASTED and I'm wondering what people's fucking problems were. I remember it had a hold out of a community online a few years after the fact. Based taste
>>735031252>Whatever you do, DO NOT fall into the trap of making big sandbox levelsHitman is the only major stealth franchise still in a healthy state, and that’s precisely BECAUSE of the sandbox levels.
>>735037843Play the Tenchu games, Shinobido and Aragami 2.Sekiro is basically just a Tenchu clone except with watered down stealth and souls elements.
>>735039047No it's because it's the only one under the ownership of a company that didn't either shelve it for more profitable franchises (IOI doesn't have a more profitable franchise) or go out of business. Metal Gear may be making a comeback if Konami wants to truly return to actual game development rather than whatever the fuck they were doing in the past decade
>>735039264Absolution almost killed the series by adopting a more linear style of stealth, since that style made the game feel more like a cheap Splinter Cell clone than Hitman. It took them redirecting back to sandbox levels in WoA to save the franchise.
>>735030746A Neptunia stealth game
>>735017135MGSV isn't really a stealth game but you can be "stealthy" I guess. It is just a sandbox game. If you're genuinely desperate you could try the new Styx game Blades of Greed or just go play Hitman.
>>735039679>styx blames of greedMan, that was a fuckhueg disappointmentNo stealth at all
>>735039502What do you mean adopting? Hitman always had linear levels from the start of the franchise up until the new trilogy came out. People even enjoy some of them, like the Lee Hong Assassination is one of the most impressive C47 levels. Hell, pretty much all levels in Hitman 2 SA are linear, including everyone's usually cited favorite level (Basement Killing; albeit that one is known for giving you a few ways to get from the same point A to the same point B). Same with Deadly Cargo in Contracts, phenomenal level and one of the best video game remakes I've ever seen, took an absolutely dogshit level from C47 and turned it into gold. Hitman could have carried on without the massive sandbox, it was never about that until recently
I can't get into numan, feels too built around le accidents and if I don't use them I feel like I'm playing the game wrong
>>735039585As interesting as this sounds, please don't give IF any ideas. They've made quite enough spin-offs.
>>735040498It's more like they made Silent Assassin rating overly contingent on having zero bodies found (unlike the older games) so every single level has to have a bunch of contrived ways to isolate your targetsEither that or you use the poison dart gun on everything like you do in FreelancerThis all could have been avoided if they had just let NPCs find one or two bodies like the old games and then just made sure to make sniping points heavily guarded so you don't just get an easy silent assassin for free
>>735036087It's a multiplayer game from 2005, it came out on the PS2/OG Xbox. It was side content to the main game. The movement was amazing for the time.>>735038951There is a patched version with the game that replaces ubi's servers with community hosted dedicated server(the game never had dedicated servers, it was always local hosted). >>735018367>MGS5 is just a worse version of MGS games that came out before it. I would recommend just play those and stop before getting to 5.No way gameplay wise MGSV mogs all of them and there's no way I'd recommend games with hours of cutscenes in this day and age
>>735042979I don't know why the AI gave her long hair in this one
>>735041120No bodies found has been a SA requirement since BM (Sans Absolution where the target’s body being found didn’t matter at all). Half the challenge of an SA run comes from the no bodies found condition. As for mission stories that isolate the target automatically for you, the trade off with them is that they take a long time to do, which makes them sub-optimal if you’re going for good times and high scores in the levels. Learning how to manipulate the AI is the key to the whole game.
