Why did Shovel Knight get memory holed? It was generally considered to be at the head of 2D indie and retro revival when it came out, but it seems like the only thing people remember from the 2010s indie scene are the metroidvanias like HK
they didn't strike while the iron was hot and get out a Shovel Knight 2 or Shovel Knight 64, they just did spin-off mobile games and tried to force a SK cameo into every single indie game ever a decade later and they're struggling to get out a gameboy game
I got it on 3ds and Switch, it's great.Plague Knight was no good for me, couldn't get into the gameplay, but Spectre Knight and King Knight were fucking awesome, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Joustus.
>>735020395>>735019789Game was too difficult People couldn't actually play it
>>735019789The original Shovel Knight is merely okay. If you want a game that looks like it was on the NES, you'd prefer Mega Man 9. They attempted to lengthen its relevancy by having a million spin-offs about the other knights, but those characters could be worse to play as than the original. People got bored of Shovel Knight long before it stopped production.
Hollow Knight is just too good.
>>735020507It's on the easier side compared to shit like Meat Boy or Hollow Knight, I'd even say it's a bit easier than the NES games that inspired it
>>735020592all three of the expansions play better than the original
>>735020075>they didn't strike while the iron was hot and get out a Shovel Knight 2Actually they did, they made a Shovel Knight 2, 3, and 4, but they made them all free dlc with the first game, which was incredibly based, but not good from a business standpoint.
>>735020825The Plague Knight one sure doesn't. The next one is at least fun when you ride your scythe like a skateboard. Shovel Knight is a better hero than these tacked on side characters because he eventually gets a ton of extra moves and the Ducktales pogo shit is a good base.
>>735020624Comparing it to something else doesn't change its own difficulty. All those games are too difficult to be enjoyed
>>735020507no side scroller can be hard that has checkpoints in each level
>>735019789I bought it at Switch launch and thought it was boring
>>735019789because it was reddit shit like most indie games, or did you forget about the stupid mode where all words got replaced with "butt"? I'm glad this shit was forgotten
>>735019789bad sequels will often do that to your franchise. Just look at how GoT went from show of the generation to memoryholed because of the godawful last season.
