You can tell they didn’t even know what to do with Willem. It’s like they originally designed him to be the pope of the whole healing church but then decided nah. His academy is just a tiny little house… the lecture building was originally intended to be a part of it, but it’s massive on the inside, so they simply chalked it up to the nightmare absorbing it. Supposedly it was originally situated on the lake itself.

Base ER is still impressive. Yes, mountaintops are shit and a half of legacy dungeons are short and underwhelming, but generally it was an insanely enjoyable ride.

The world needs to become more interconnected. The game contains weird shortcuts that don't really add anything meaningful, and one big shortcut was outright removed from the final version (the door after cleric beast).
Weapons need a better spread between locations. Bloodtinge builds are absolutely painful because you need to kill a late game boss to get a BLT weapon.
Chalice dungeons need the story chalice system to get nuked into oblivion, it should be fully RNG.

Liked the exploration and (most of) the locations of the DLC, but I must be getting old because I've never raged at a game harder than I did with SoTE.
The atmosphere was top notch; the gameplay was more of the same, ie bloated health bars and hyper anime fights.

At this point we only had Demon Souls and Dark Souls 1 and 2. Gameplay and aestheticwise they were all very similar, plus only a minority played Demon Souls and Dark Souls 2 was somewhat disliked, so Bloodborne coming with a new gameplay flow, different aesthetic, ps4 graphics and less jank than previous games was a big deal.
