>only ps3 controller playing up after 10 or so years so decide to buy a new controller for pc gaming
>get standard xbox controller despite hearing the problems with them
>use it casually for a few years keep it in great condition, never been dropped, looks brand new
>suddenly controller starts scrolling up on it's own
>only happens in one game
>search online
>yep you have stick drift time to buy a new controller

What a piece of shit, also I can see why the warranty is only 90 days, that says volumes about the quality of the product.

Is there actually a decent controller you can buy for pc gaming that will last more than a few years, I literally can't believe this xbox controller is faling me despite looking brand new still.
>>
I have multiple of these controllers that I've used for years and never had stick drift. Perhaps it's a (You) problem. The only thing I've ever had get stick drift is my right joycon
>>
Also you can just go into the Xbox® Accessories app on Windows and adjust the deadzones since it sounds like one particular game has small deadzones.
>>
>>735021762
yes when most people complain of drift they actually mean bad deadzones. lots of games have bad deadzones by default. this is why everyone tells you to use ds4windows or steam input because you can adjust it there regardless of game.
>>
I even had an xbone controller get drift in less than 90 days, I couldn't believe it. It persisted for a few weeks and then it went away, weird stuff. My Series controller is fine after a year.
>>
>>735021895
Yup. All OP has to do is just go to hardwaretester.com's controller tester to see where the stick drift is affecting the deadzone then change the controller's deadzone to outside that. Boom no longer will drift.
>>
never had that drift thing on any controller. feel like it's just made up boogey man
>>
>>735021687
I had drift after 2 years on one. I'm close to a year on another and it's fine. $25/year controller expenditures doesn't seem bad.
>>
>>735021268
I've had mine for 5 years without a single issue I'm convinced you threw this thing in a fit of incel-fueled gamer rage lmfao
>>
>>735021268
I had the xbox one controller, developed drift after 6 months of lighter use than say at least other 10 controllers that didn't have this issue. All companies have this issue now. Which is why newer types like hall effect, TMR or capacitive are so attractive to people.
>>
my ps5 controller drifted after a few months but my 360, ps2, and ps3 controllers are fine
>>
>>735022093
What kind of cuckoldry is this?
If there's an issue you don't cope by making the analog stick worse by increasing the deadzone. Deadzone should be as minimal as possible. There's a good reason now there's negative deadzone compensation settings in more modern games or steam input.
>>
The only time I've experienced stick drift is with my DS4 but all it took to fix it was blowing into the thumbstick gap while swiveling it around.
>>
why not just buy a controller with hall effect or TMR sticks instead of controllers known to drift?
>>
>>735021268
It's always the shoulder buttons that fail first on mine.
>>
>>735022485
every controller and game is different. even on dualsense people calibrate their controllers differently.

>>
>>735022683
Ever since I bought one of those with buttons that sounds like mouse clicks I've been scared to try anything new
>>
>>735021268
Just replace the potentiometers. It's seriously not a hard repair.
>>
>>735022485
He's right to an extent. Manufacturing tolerances for any kind of joystick allow for up to 7% centering error without a deadzone, you should never expect 0% to work flawlessly and people who expect it to then cry about drift because their controller centers at 1.4%. Negative deadzone compensation is useful despite this because many games have dumbass 30-70% deadzones baked in.
Personally I prefer 2-3% deadzone and draw the line around 6-10%, but controllers I've had real drift on would randomly give 40-100% inputs which is unusably bad.
>>
>>735022263
Same... I wonder what people are even doing to get stick drift
>>
>>735022683
>Get an 8bit do controller because hall effect
>It's just some shitty Chinese controller that feel terrible to use
>Go back to using the controller that drift
Is there any of them that aren't just cheap shit made to scam people?
>>
>>735021895
No, anyone can tell the difference between sensitive controls and actual drift. And most games aren't that sensitive. Like, I remember titanfall 2 being snappy but when the camera moves on its own in gears 5, that's drift.
>>
>>735023331
They don't sell Xbox potentiometers at my local bestbuy or Walmart

yeah 8bitdo stuff is notoriously cheap. I like Gulikit stuff personally. The Gulikit Elves 2, the updated normal one not the older Pro one, is my go controller now. If you don't like floating dpads and want an Xbox layout, I've heard the Gulikit ES Pro is good too.
I'll say up front though that I play on pc with a wired connection exclusively so if you wanna play wireless or on consoles, you'd probably need to do some looking around to make sure you're picking up the right controller for you. I start with checking latency on Gamepadla, then look at reviews for the top results of whatever is most important to me and make a decision from there. I play a lot of fighting games and use the Elves 2 for whenever I don't wanna pull out my fightstick, so I wanted low button latency and a floating dpad. I would've preferred having a 6 button controller like the cheap chinese Betop C3, but there aren't many fightpad options so you take what you can get. It's been great for other stuff though. I use it for platformers and stuff like that as well and don't even touch my 8bitdo Ultimate 2C anymore.
>>
>>735023654
I'll watch this later but you didn't get my point. I played hundreds of hours of gears 5, all fine. Then one day the camera starts moving upwards on its own. That's drift without a doubt, the dead zones didn't change, the stick behavior did. You can always tell when the sticks suddenly act different.
>>
>>735023578
Order them online...
>>
>>735024296
I understand what you mean. Don't worry.
>>
>>735024213
>Elves 2
That's a... very unique design but I won't say no if it works, thanks. I'll go do some research and see how it works.
>>
Console devs need to design a stick/bumper that isn't utter dogshit that is designed to break regularly.
Lol.
>>
>>735021268
im still using my xbox one controller, skill diff
>>
There are no built to last modern controllers
>>
>>735022149
Same. I've only had it with my left joycon after like 5 years and I was aware of how shit they were supposed to be so it didn't surprise me.
>>
>>735023478
What makes you think people suddenly just decide to abuse their controllers specifically now and not before? Like they were taking very good care of a PS2 controller but they get a new Xbox controller or a Dualsense and they just grab the thing and smack it against a desk. What the fuck kinda mindset is that?
Drift can occur even with mostly unused controllers. I've had an xbox controller with analog drift on the right analog stick and that stick went unused most of the time. The amount of abuse I put on my sixaxis would have to make the xbox controller behave perfectly in comparison, and it's actually worse. You do not understand this.
>>
>>735021268
>>735021268
Yo OP I had the same issue. My xbox one controller was drifting for so long. Turns out you just need to update the firmware via microsoft store app I forgot which one was the app but just google it. Now mine runs great and have no issue.
>>
I bought a few new 360 controllers so I should be good for a decade or two
>>
>>735025013
Bro your reaction says everything. You went 0 to 100 on a guy just wondering what could people be doing to their controller. You obviously whip that shit around hahahahaha its okay dude just go get some therapy or something
>>
>>735021268
Wait for the Steam controller or grab something with Hall Effect or TMR sticks. When I was on the market to get a Switch 2 Pro controller, my friend recommended me the GameSir Cyclone 2 if you want to look into that but I would just wait for the Steam controller unless you really need one right now. Just use KB/M for the time being or something.
>>
>>735025295
I told (You) what I did, mongoloid. I answered your question here.
>>
>>735025224
360 controller is a different beast, not much stick drift but they all get slow turn eventually.
>>
>>735021268
Yep, the same thing happened to me with my xbox controller. It'll eventually get stick drift from regular use. Time to shell out some more money goy
>>
>>735025398
Simmer down buddy, don't make another hole in the wall with your controller. I can tell you're getting angry
>>
>>735023478
I have two theories
-some people just game more than others
-controllers might be affected by the amount of dust in your room
>>
i've been using a Power-A (xbox variant) USB controller since 2021 with no issues, not even drift.
>>
I have had a controller for 4 years and the left stick has a slight drift but it is still usable
>>
>>735025398
believe it or not the correct punctuation and grammar make it look like you're already flying off the handle. chill out man

>just adjust the deadzone bro
yeah sure let me just not use 80% of the range of motion of the stick
i bought a gamesir g7 after this happened
>>735023478
>blaming the user instead of the manufacturer when buying hall effect sticks would be a negligible increase in the price of the bill of materials
you're cattle
