A lot of games reuse assets, it's not uncommon at all through most of video game history. The key thing is reusing assets without making it too obvious or overabundant. Some model tweaks and texture changes can go a long way to make sure the assets fit into the specific world better. Reusing assets is not a bad thing inherently.
>>
will re using assets make games smaller?

Why is NiggerApe not banning OP?

Making a game with 1000 employees that still somehow feels generic and dull means it's probably best to just reuse assets instead of making them all do shit again.
>>
>>735022679
>They say as they release the 16th version of the exact same game
>>
just be smart about it
>>
ubisoft already reuses their shit, the motion cap animations in assassins creed 2 to 3 / black flag are identical, along with the mission designs

I'm fine with this -IF- it drives down cost. I don't care is you outsource most your stuff so long as your price reflects that.
Want to sell me a reused asset game at $60+? Fuck off

I'm all up for it, as it will drive the industry to the ground faster.

I think Yakuza might be still be using some mocap animations for NPCs dating back to the earliest games. And how many weapon movesets have been recycled across all the FromSoft titles? Obviously it's fine, but you still gotta make an appealing game that's fun to play. I grew tired of the AC formula after two games.
>>
RE games reuse a ton of assets, too much even, to the point Demake 4 looks worse than the original.
Ubishit just doesn't know how to reuse their millions of assets because their managers and workforce are all trash.
>>
Everyone does it. You just need to adjust it enough so you don't immediately notice it.
>>
Rdr2 reuses assets and i never hear anyone complain about it
>>
Kotor 2 is king
>>
This happens plenty enough, with these fuckers you just know they will copy paste entire parts of the map or enemies though.
>>
so if i "own" the previous game i get a discount, right??????
>>
>>735022679
FromSoft does it and gets awards from normies and praise from /v/.
If they can do it then everyone else can do it too.
There's no need to remodel a wooden door 1000x if the art direction is not drastically different between projects.
>>
>>735022679
I really don’t understand why gaymers as so assblasted by reused assets. You do it in literally every industry.

He is partially right.

>Some model tweaks and texture changes
You don't even need to go that far. Varied placements and alternative lighting schemes are trivial and enough (and still more than AAA studios tend to do).

This is the most obvious take of all time, only now are they realizing they've wasted tens of millions of dollars recreating shit nobody has ever cared about.

I made a passing comment in a unrelated thread the other day about WDL reusing assets to build the scenery and thought nothing of it, and now these cunts are saying this

weird

anyway
I've built cities skylines cities on toasters with more diverse assets than this shit
I think they *nailed* it but they absolutely rely on it too often and running defense about it strikes me as being really fucking insecure
do people need to start making percentages for asset reuse across other competing open-world games like GTA 5 or smaller games like Sleeping Dogs?
smarter people than me could probably figure that out
>>
>>735022914
No. It makes the game come out faster and cheaper to develop.
>>
>>735025339
I'd have no problem with reusing the layout if they hinted it was the same region. Its a prehistoric game vs like mid 2010s era. The layout is the same but Primal actually visually looked really unique for a FC game
>>
>>735024817
Is not noticeable
>>
>>735028416
that was the idea with the FC expansions anyway
Blood Dragon is just one of the islands from FC3 with an 80s sci-fi action movie prop change
they were always explicitly DLC-tier from the start and it's weird people have forgotten this

it's still egregious don't get me wrong
I ain't defending ubisoft lmao
>>
>>735023503
lol reminds me how a few years ago steam was full with indie horror $5 asset flips with jumpscares that all featured same mansion from unity store
>>
>>735027036
You don't even understand what the means you fucking retard.
>>
>>735022679
Reusing assets is completely fine as long as it's not super noticeable and over the top, by making a genuine effort to mask/hide it as much as possible.

But considering that it's a Ubisoft director saying this, I'm 99% sure he just wants to be a lazy faggot and copy/paste shit everywhere to reduce his and his team's work by making games even more fucking shitty.
