Which is better, OG RE1 or the remake?
>>
Original since it doesn't have shitty crimson heads to punish you to killing enemies
>>
>>735022739
REmake. Original is still good and worth playing though, because remakes do not replace the originals, ever.

>>735022739
remake cause it filters scrubs

REmake is an object gameplay improvement but the original has so much fucking SOUL with its FMV live action and dumb dialogue. Also all though the pre-rendered backgrounds in REmake are incredible I'm not a huge fan of how they tried to make it more overtly dark and spooky, I like how colorful the original is. Overall REmake1 is a better game but people saying it makes the original obsolete and without merit are full of shit
>>
>>735022739
REmake is a masterpiece. Still looks good after 25 years
>>
>>735022739
Aren't there like three different versions of the original? I know there's one with really shitty music in the basement, but I never played that one. I had the Director's Cut.

Remake is objectively better. But being objectively better doesn't always mean you'll have the most fun with it. OG 1 has a so bad it's good quality charm in comparison to the remakes even if when it came out, the original was a perfectly great game.
>>
>>735023283
There's 6 I think

>OG longbox
>Director's Cut
>PC version with uncensored cutscenes
>Dualshock edition with the clown music
>Saturn version
>Deadly Silence
>>
>>735022739
Both. The original was a landmark title and the remake is the golden ideal of how to remake a game (as a supplement to the original, not a replacement).
>>
Both are good, but REmake can only be fully appreciated if you’ve played original first. It has a ton of details designed specifically for people who played the original. Remake is also a lot more difficult, so the OG is a much better introduction to classic fixed camera RE.

But unfortunately tons of people play either REmake, or even worse, RE0 as their first classic RE game and get a terrible first impression of it being way too hard. The original, especially as Jill, is super easy, and is a much better place to start if you arnt used to tank controls and how these games work.
>>
They're both good and different enough to stand on their own.

This and the original has Arranged difficulty adding a fuck ton of replayability. Even have the Sega Saturn version if you want to further mix things up. REmake is good but gets boring and stale after a while.
>>
>>735024315
I wish Capcom would do just 1 more fixed-camera RE. If pre-rendered backgrounds can look that good on shit 2002 hardware, it would have to look almost real on modern hardware.

REmake is better but only after you've played the original can you appreciate the changes made
>>
>>735023401
There's also the unfinished GBC version if you want to split hairs. I'd recommend playing the Japanese versions of the longbox and Saturn games. Those are easier but they have auto aim. Plant 42 and the helipad Tyrant fight are super annoying without auto aim

It's more of a lateral shift than a verticalgrade. There's some extreme jank in the original and the remake is really well made, but I think that it ultimately boils down to which vibe you prefer. The flat lighting of the original gives it more mundane and naturalistic vibe. The remake is darker and moodier, which looks really good now and then, but also sometimes feels comparatively like a Halloween theme park.

Personally, I played the remake with Jill and original with Chris once.
>>
>>735024641
You can do that with the remaster of the remake, too.
>>
>>735025601
>It's more of a lateral shift than a verticalgrade.
This. I personally think all 3 PS1 REs are similar enough that if you like one of them, odds are high of liking the others, with the possible sole exception of being filtered by Nemesis. This in mind, the idea that RE1 and its own remake could be so different that one could be head and shoulders above the other, some even going as far as to say the other outright sucks and their favorite is the good one, is just insane. It's not like it's a modern remake that completely overhauls gameplay systems; it's still faithful to the classic template.

A lot of people played requiem as their first game. Since the number isnt present in the title, they may have thought it was the first game, just to discover all the rest
>>

>Since the number isnt present in the title, they may have thought it was the first game, just to discover all the rest
Yes anon, nobody has heard of massive franchise Resident Evil, which has made over a billion dollars off its film franchise and sees every game sell more than a million copies, with its last five games all selling more than 10 million.
>>
the original has a more interesting art style and that's about it, in terms of gameplay the remake is miles better
>>
>>735026685
You really can't separate them. You can't really appreciate the changes made in the remake without experiencing the original first

Original. If you want to play a mechanically improved version of the original, Deadly Silence.
I like REmake too but I'm tired of people saying it replaces the original.
>>
>>735029516
Fucking hell, you literally only have to go through 4 doors
>>
>>735029970
Can't you do it in like, two?
>happens when you get to the Spencer emblem room, which is adjacent to the door leading to the east save room under the stairs that falls apart (but this is moot because this is a mansion 2 event after it gets fixed, and you're going through the working side anyway)
>go upstairs, hang right, go to the door at the end of the hall
>you're there
or is my spatial memory lacking?

This. The remake pretty much makes the Handgun near useless outside of killing dogs on account of not giving reliable headshot.

Sound design goes a long way for any game, doubly so for survival horror. SH might be the king for both composition and mixing but the sound design and stereo mixing in REmake is also fantastic.
>>
The DS version is unironically the best
>>
I just want for the re-remake. Fuck tank controls
>>
>>735022739
OG

>properly lighted unlike the forced horrorslop haunted mansion in the Demake
>no Crimson heads and an unkillable grenade zombie to halt your progress
>no meme Lisa Trevor sections
>no unnecessary outside of the mansion proper sections, you just go inside the cave to retrieve one key item and you're in the final laboratory after
>more ammo so you could shoot all of the zombie doggos, zombies and optional bosses; the demake removes most of the ammo because le heckin horrorslop

>>
>>735022739
remake the only game that makes the original irrelevant
>>
Remake is more "consistent" as a game, but OG simply has a lot more charm to its quirkiness. But even then I have to pretty much point out that they exist together rather than against each other, and not just for the same director: a lot of Remake's ideas, scares and puzzles are pretty much like an arrange mode or tribute to the OG, where veterans would be caught off guard by intentional tweaks like the Cerberus hallway that only activates the attack from the north end but never the west. You can't just replace OG, if you want to appreciate the full deal you have to treat it more like two games as one entity.
>>
>>735022739
REmake has a lot of unnecessary backtracking that artificially make the game longer
>>
>>735022739
I prefer the original, but the remake is also good.
>>
I only played the DS version :^)
