I know being sincere has been out of style here for years now, but I'll be totally open and say that this game makes me deeply sad. Truly. Prime and Super are tied for my favorite game ever. Beyond was just so fucked in so many obvious ways. So many people made so many blatantly terrible choices. Ironically, at least a handful of people there understood the assignment. There are brief glimpses of what the game could and should have been. Still, I think the worst thing is that you can tell Nintendo was totally clueless and even ashamed. They weren't proud. Couldn't even muster up the Nintendo arrogance like they did with that Mario Kart direct where they implied you'd be made to understand the $80 price. They knew it would come out wrong and just . . . didn't care?They lied and said they scrapped the first build but actually told Retro to inherit it and make it a finished game. They let Tanabe push ahead with his flawed idea of ripping of BotW, which is just not even how Nintendo regularly approaches development. I mean, you can throw a red flag from the first sentence of Tanabe's pitch for the development plan. But they just let him do it not once but twice? They let him drag two teams into that shithole. And even when it's nearing release, you can tell they're trying to rush it out. It didn't get a date for so long and then suddenly has one at the end of a string of four first party games, one of which had the date moved up. Just thrown out. They didn't show the GF cunts until after preview events because they knew they fucking sucked, but they let that idiot push for them the whole time anyway. For fuck's sake, the ending of the game is Other M levels of awful. But they just didn't care enough to intervene. Beyond did the worst thing possible: It made me think they should just put a series that I fucking adore in the grave. At most, I guess they can give Risa Tabata one chance.
