Sorry, my daughter... it's time to put up your Game Boy
>>
>>735040775
Put it up into where papa?
>>
GO TO THE BATHROOM, ALICIA
>>
dude just tried to kill his daughter and everyone she knows for her entire 2nd life and didn't expect rebellion? more like worst father award
>>
>>735040775
Painted Renoir was cool. Real Renoir taught his children to create entire worlds of sentient life so he could mass murder them when they were done playing with them.

The Writers are right. The Painters gotta go.
>>
>>735041069
Sorry daughter dearest, the escapist lunacy stops now. Your little drug-delusion imaginary friends aren't real after all.
>>
>>735041069
That world wasn't real, it's like slaughtering his daughters Minecraft town and hardcore character because she refuses to get off the game.
>>
>>735041197
papa, pls... just one more hour... I promise I'll stop
PLS
>>
>>735041216
It was real but slaughtering everyone was the correct choice anyway
>>
>>735041216
what part of it isn't real if they're indistinguishable from real life? that means you're probably not real as well
>>
>>735041216
They had feelings dreams emotions. They were real
>>
Growing up is understanding that your parents were right and you shouldn't have spent so much time playing video games.
Renoir is right. Verso is right.

ouch!

AI can have emotions programmed in, you're going to out there picketing for AI rights in 15 years.

>Those villagers had emeralds... jobs... crops... they were real!!!!!!!111111
more to the point, how can you know they had feelings and dreams and emotions? because the artificial, created beings TOLD you they have dreams, that means they have dreams? if i made a python script that just printed the words "i have dreams" is my computer now somehow sentient and i should feel guilty when i shut it off?
retard
>>
why didn't he just paint a giant cloud that rains poop over everything. nobody would want to stick around then.
>>
is the game abandoning the "save the world" plot of the expedition to something grander a valid criticism?
>>
>>735041314
Of course they did, there would be no point in imaginary worlds if they were just mindless NPCs. They can make their emotions as "real" as they want, but it doesn't make them real. Lune's family drama is on the same level as a gestral being sad it can't punch things.
>>
>>735041540
>AI can have emotions programmed in

Dumb ass nigga.
>>
>>735040775
the people who think Verso and Renoir are right are assigning heightened value to 'real people' because they tell you they're 'the real people'.

everyone within the game is a video game character who is just as real compared to you, the player, as each other, that's the bitter irony of it all.

Maelle's ending is the right ending because it's not hardline, there's room for interpretation of what happens next, Verso's ending is a false black and white dichotomy forcing an issue to a close when that hardline stance is in itself unfair, full of people weighting 'what's real' when the people in the 'real world' aren't real either, need I remind you that the 'Real' Verso's date of Death was listed as December 33rd.
>>
Sorry but anyone that murders Gustave is my enemy
>>
I like the spirit behind this game, though I doubt I'll ever play it.

If only Gustave were there... would've been the third ending where he makes everyone happy
If only Gustave.....
>>
>>735044220
if gustave were still around he would have agreed with verso, since gustave is a man of reason
>>
>>735043695
Verso and Renoir are right even if the people in the painting are as real as they are.
Existence is not worth it if you are just existing at the whims of some petty god that can change or alter you at any time. Especially one who has proven to be overly emotionally attached to a specific timeframe and character. Freedom has value, simply existing as a prop in someone else's world is worse than ceasing to exist.

If there were an option, if Renoir was confident he could hide the painting away from Aline and Alicia, then that would be the best option. The second best is Verso's ending.
>>
>>735040775
fag33 is a shit game
>>
>>735041069
Troons always take this stance because they too wish they could change reality. (You can’t)
>>
>>735044275
if it were an option, aline not being a psycho depressed whore would be the best one. alas
>>
>>735043695
Imagine all the struggles you and your world suffered was because some family of gods was having some family drama over losing a son, I would kill myself before they could delete me realizing how utterly meaningless everything is.
>>
>>735043695
It's insane that people can come out of E33 with that point of view. That's like thinking Marche was the villain in FFTA and not in the meme way, actually believing that what Marche was doing was wrong.

I picked the Verso ending within a split second, I didn't hesitate at all.
Why? Because, painted people ARE. NOT. REAL. PERIOD.

Anytime a painted character is on screen I laugh out loud because they're meaningless. And in retrospection every scene in Act 1 and 2 was meaningless. Like, for example Alicia's letter? LMAO nigga that bitch ain't real I don't care about what that minecraft bot wrote in her dumb letter, are you for real?!

I CARE ABOUT REAL PEOPLE, LIKE RENOIR AND VERSO
>>
>>735044275
your logic is acting as though the 'real people' in this world aren't just as subject to the whims of some petty god.

do I need to go meta enough to say 'they could have been removed from the game if they were troubling enough', the reality they exist in is just as fictional as Lumiere, in Maelle's ended, Verso's age has very clearly advanced, it seems as though she's just trying to see out a more natural end to his life, that is a time frame, there's no reason that she can't also step out of the painting when she has accepted her brother's death in a way that makes even the painted Verso happy, the Maelle ending doesn't stop her from attending the funeral in the Verso ending.

it's not about who's right or wrong in the ending choice, the ending choice is about deciding if there IS a right or wrong answer or if the question is more nuanced.... picking the Verso ending is ultimately flattening and narrowing your perspective.
>>
>>735040775
I'd like to see Sandfall subvert the audience's expectations again by having an actual good happy ending for their next game when everyone thinks it'll be some middling depression awardslop nonsense again.
But since the French are allergic to happy things, it'll never happen.

picking the maelle ending is ultimately admitting you are hopelessly naive and have the worldview of a child, thanks for playing

>>735044570
i picked verso before i even knew the plot twist. as soon as i got to the end of act 2 i was saying "if i get a chance to side with renoir, i'm taking it". that's how obvious the correct choice is.
still, you don't have to write off the lumierans as "not real" to demonstrate why verso is the correct choice. if anything, subjecting them to slavery under alicia is even WORSE if you do consider them living people. maellefags will never understand this, of course
>>
>>735044590
No.
My logic applies to the Painters as much as it does to the people in the painting.
Except the Painters have not been confronted with that kind of reality, have they? Lumiere has. Lumiere has a god walking around deciding who should be alive and who shouldn't be. Who matters and who doesn't.

The only argument you've presented is "maybe things work out off screen" despite the ending clearly showing that Alicia is rapidly decaying just like her mother was. There is nothing in that ending that indicates things are going to work out.

Verso's ending is the correct one certainly. But an actual good would have been Renoir basically telling Maelle that he'll bring EVERYONE who were wiped out back to the living, including Gustave, if she just leaves the painting alongside their mother. Not permanently, but just enough time to settle into the real world again.

This painting is literally just a fantasy to them, and they know it. It is a game. They can do and make anything they want. Its addicting, but Renoir just needs to slowly limit them and introduce them to actual things in the irl to make them happy. But because Maelle and Renoir's wife are impulsive addicts, in-game he has no option but to destroy the whole thing. If they showed some level of control (which Gustave could do for Maelle, and Verso could do for Mother) they could just go into the painting and have weekly conversations with Gustave/Verso etc.

But this ending is for a realistic scenario. The devs wanted a tragedy on both sides, so a golden ending, which is arguably the most realistic if you really think on it, was not made possible.

Renoir did nothing wrong

This is quite possibly the first game I've played where the bad guy says that he's killing people for a reason, and then it turns out there's an actual reason and explanation to everything
>>
>>735044220
Maybe Gustave could have convinced Maelle that she can go out for a while and then come back instead of choosing to die in the painting like a retard

why THE FUCK did they let Alicia grow up as Maelle for 16 years? why THE FUCK didn't they just gommage her instantly so she could reenter the canvas properly and help Renoir?, I liked the game but the twist after the monolith just makes everyone seem like a retard
>>
>>735045097
>why THE FUCK did they let Alicia grow up as Maelle for 16 years
The mom did it because it was part of her game to never leave the canvas. Renoir just had no access to Maelle until she appeared on the island.

of course they're retards, they're french

Maelle's real family does not deserve Verso's ending. Clea left her there, Aline painted over her, and Renoir strung her along through Act 1 and 2 as the curator, where she formed bonds with other people.
That's why Maelle's ending is so poetically delicious, it is the logical results of the Dessendre's fuckery. They lost a kid and then lost another through their own retardation. It is the ending where actions have consequences.
>>
>>735045475
>Why didnt clea do anything
she literally says in the reveal that Maelle's fuckup will at least keep her busy and out of trouble while she goes out to cook the writers in retaliation for Verso.
>>
you could maybe argue he's wrong for not being able to control his dumb wife. Aline is the sole antagonist of specifically the events within the game. Unless it was made clear exactly what Alicia did in the real world to get verso killed and I missed it.

All of the problems are caused by Aline refusing to log out of her children's minecraft world. you want to escape? fine, go start your own minecraft save file.
>>
>>735045012
I fully think he could have. Maelle has nothing but love for him, and she knows that anything he would say isn't meant to manipulate her, but to fully support her wellbeing. The wrench in the plan would be convincing Renoir to allow this, although the party would just beat his asshole like in the actual story.
>>
>>735043695
>Maelle's ending is the right ending because it's not hardline, there's room for interpretation of what happens next
No there isn't. Anyone who's played the game knows that Maelle's ending leads to two possibilities
1. Maelle stays in the painting and eventually dies. Renoir burns the painting afterwards
2. Renoir, possibly also Aline and Clea alongside him, return the painting, forces Maelle/Alicia out and burns the painting.
>>
>>735042263
No because it was always a fact finding mission. They didn't know how to save the world starting out. The option is never abandoned either.
>>
>>735045475
Clea rocco's-basilisked herself because she thought it would be metal. She is not an empathetic person.
>>
>>735045908
you're doing exactly, EXACTLY what Verso does in the game, you're assuming behavior, predicting the way things WILL happen without evidence or proof that it does turn out that way.

a lot of the people in this thread are just as guilty of this, you're pretending you know the future, the point of Maelle's ending is that it isn't opposed to Verso's, but you're all insisting that it is.

Verso is a man who thinks in false dichotomies, and in wanting to protect Alicia has revealed his hand, he doesn't believe she will grow, mature or change, when the Maelle ending shows she is trying to prioritize HIS happiness, if she wasn't willing to mature or change, why would she age him at all, why would she progress him towards a conclusion of his life?

Verso's ending basically tricks you into thinking his ending and the Maelle ending are two sides of a coin, they aren't.
