You need like 32-64TB of storage with modern games. if each game wants to bloat it self up to 250gb

I remember playing portable CS 1.6 on school computers and it was like 100 MB.
>>
I have a 90 mbps internet which is pretty decent so I simply delete games I don't want. A 100+gb game can finish in 3-4 hours of wait time which isn't much. Stilll kinda sad that my steam library has over a hundred games and I only have like 3-4 games installed at a time since SSDs still don't come in sizes of more than 1TB. Doesn't help that windows also is fucking useless on tracking mysterious large file sizes so it's a pain in the ass to constantly tracky where your memory is coming from. I had to scour my appdata the other day to find tens of gbs of fucking crash logs from skyrim.

I don't understand how people here have this problem, are they actually buying every single slop game out there? The biggest I have is 160 gb or so, but most are nowhere around that size.

>>735049480
Residual data. The only way to get rid of permanently is to format C
>>
>>735050201
You don't, in reality. The usual cope is that C: drive is usually accessed by your CPU PCIe lanes and not the chipset lanes making it faster but that's horseshit for any /v/ workload. Why I wouldn't suggest a 100 GB drive is simply because some games start shitting themselves if installed somewhere other than C drive. Don't ask why.
>>
>>735050201
Because it's just cope. So many games nowadays even if you store the base files in other drives, especially live service games, dump a lot of files inside your C folders. Modern games also now require preloaded shaders so your nvidia shader folders can also balloon to ridiculous levels especially if you have multiple games that require compiling shader caches. I have to frequently delete just to save space and get rid of caches on games I'm not playing at the moment.
Suffice to say, any game made after 2018 really wants you to play one game at a time because devs will do everything to bloat your storage space.
>>
>>735048201
>60GB
unfortunately thats on the lower end of game sizes nowadays.
>>
>>735050496
>Suffice to say, any game made after 2018 really wants you to play one game at a time because devs will do everything to bloat your storage space
this doesn't make much sense. it's not likely that your game is that popular such that it's going to be installed *first* before any other game. this strategy only harms your users unless your game is Fortnite or whatever the modern most popular title at the moment. for 99.9% of developers this is shooting yourself in the foot.
>>
>>735050201
Because the people saying that are saving games and random shit in C.
>>
>>735048369
THIS
>>
>>735050496

my friends dad had this obsession with keeping his c: partition clean so he could reinstall and keep all the other stuff. that was 20 years ago THO.
>>
>>735050718
Because it's operating and user data and every game has their own folder. That shit fills up eventually. The a game's install folder nowadays is just the base files required to run the game. Things used to be a lot more simple where a game only needs a save folder in your documents and the installed files. Now you have to play whack a mole to locate all the files a game has placed in your system, and windows is fucking terrible at helping with this.

The storage space isn't the issue, it's the network bandwidth, installing a game like that will take at least a day on a slow connection

Buy a 2TB HDD with 7200RPM, or an external HDD from any company with a name that you recognize, if you don't want to install a HDD. Your computer probably already had 1TB if it plays anything modern. You can now own like 50 games. Or for a PlayStation 5, fuck it buy like a 4-5TB WD Black from Walmart, or a used Seagate from Gamestop for $125 or $70 or so. Those PS+ games that's why. Most PS5 games have a PS4 version that you can go with, and those SSDs for PS are fuckin expensive.

Realistically you can't keep shit off of C:
Every single program wants to "cache" stuff there and probably forgets to delete it. But even if not, it adds up. You can try moving AppData off of it but you'll probably discover all kinds of bugs. MS store stuff goes there too, in all sorts of weird places, and MS doesn't even want you to look for it.
It's a lost cause. I tried partitioning to keep shit off of C: and it was a disaster, I had to roll it back.

Most games don't have the problem HD2 had. They thought duplicating data would make it faster on HDDs because it'd allow for fewer long seeks.
The problem is, the OS determines where data lies on the disk, and you can't make a game store data on the cylinders you want like laying out an optical disc.
They were fucking retarded. I can't think of any other developer that did that shit.
Most games these days are filled with high resolution textures, because poors can just use the mipmaps, and nonpoors will complain about shitty textures if you leave them out.

There are some games (Diablo 4, Space Marine 2, and others) that will let you selectively download them, but most developers feel one texture pack will serve everyone (which it does, except for space and download time concerns, which are largely irrelevant in 2026).
