Are Achivements in games still worthless or did they ever fix them?
>>735051483It is a zoomer cattle thing really. Back in the day you just played video games and got unlocks sometimes for playing them again like skins. There wasn't participation awards to show your e-friends or any retarded shit like that.
>>735051483Achievements are fun when you want to do them for your own enjoyment.
>still worthless>implying they were ever worth anythingthe first thing you do when you buy a new game machine is turn off all notifications for this garbage off so you can PLAY video games
Achievements are fun to hunt, but no, they never really ""fixed"" them.Devs still ship glitchy achievements and there’s basically zero quality control from publishers or platforms now more than ever.Valve still doesn’t have a platinum‑style system, and Sony hasn’t really cared about trophies in years. They even banned one of their biggest trophy hunters at one point, and there were reports of someone bribing employees to steal and sell user data with no real consequences.Still, if you’re doing it for yourself and not to show off, it’s pretty fun :3
They are worth as much as anything else there is in bideo games.
>>735051483>Are Achivements in games still worthless or did they ever fix them? What would make them worthwhile? What do you want out of achievements?
Real achievements are fun. But nowadays theyre used as a metric to turn you into a statistic. Ever wonder why completing the tutorial is an achievement? Because seeing how many players played that much is valuable information.
Who even creates the achievements? It often feels like the devs are not a part of the process at all. Or that they just threw it on last minute because they were forced to.
>>735051483I know it's cool on here to hate on achievements/trophies but I like them. It gives you something to aim for. Reminder from the earliest days of video games people were trying to get high scores to big dick mog everyone else. So even a guy in the 80s trying to get the high score on his local pub's Donkey Kong machine and entering his name as ASS had some of the mentality of OP.>THE GREAT THING ISN'T GETTING A HIGH SCORE, BUT SHOWING EVERYONE ELSE I DID
>>735056923>What would make them worthwhile?Tie them to in-game content, like Uplay used to do. The only time I ever bothered to achievement hunt was in Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed because the achievements unlocked costumes, missions, and weapon skins.
>>735051483ironically it became the best way to find out if someone larps or not
>>735057469Im not even epileptic but that color scheme made me have a petite mal siezure.
>>735057469A high score actually is an achievement though. Achievements are not an achievement.
>>735051483Achievements are just mindless pats on the back. And honestly, there's nothing wrong with that. What becomes a problem is when people start caring too much about them. Having sex with men is less homosexual than achievement hunting
>>735057469this is only true when the achievement is actually something that is hard to do and takes skill. Doesn't mean anything when 90% of achievements are just "play the game" or "get 10 headshots' like yeah, it's a shooting game, I'm gonna get ten headshots. Heaven forbid I don't do that through normal game play, it's not HARD to do, just tedious.
>>735057469The only reason people hate on achievements is because they mostly feel forced and intrusive. There are good achievements out there that are fun to go for and it's nice to be able to show em off to your friends but most of them are absolutely pointless bullshit that feels like it was thrown in there to fill a quota. At least you can turn off the notifications or fucking MUTE them these days.Whoever decided that the trophies on the ps5 should take a video of every achievement by default should be shot though.
>>735057604>>735057879>Achievements are not an achievement.Depends. Some achievements/trophies are stupid things like "reload your gun 150 times". But I'm in the process of getting the trophies for doing no death runs in Super Meat Boy. That shit is fucking hard so when I accomplish it, yeah I don't mind a little checkmark on my account saying "this crazy nigga did this crazy hard thing once".
>>735058027>Depends, some are stupid but some take actual skill!yeah, I know. My entire post was about how there is quality differences in achievements.
>>735051483Unironically, only 360 did achievements more or less fine in general, you beat the game you got piece of clothing for your xbox not-mii avatar(alan wake jacket, dark souls pyromancy, etc).Steam and ps trophies, where they don't give you anything, sucks ass. Some companies, like bioware before they went full pc, made achievements give you actual bonuses in game(had asari and gipsy girl in your party for the 60% of game, have +damage against all aliens in future playthroughs), I think these days only Capcom does that with their resident evil games
>>735051483They're only worth something if you enjoyed the game and want some sort of challenge for yourself. Whatever accomplishments and unique things you've done however is useless information in the real world. Who the fuck wants to know I carried a garden gnome through the entire campaign of half life 2 episode 2 on fucking xbox? It's not going to get some foid wet, but it's enough to amuse the devs in a meeting with chuckles that someone has done it, thats about it.Do not bother with achievements if they are tedious and not fun. Like some anons said, just play the game and ignore them. Your time is too precious to be stuck on one game longer than you should spend on it.
>>735051483They are useful if representing shit that also give you real in-game unlocks, but the vast majority of them are worthless.
